Marcia Gamsu, BACP accredited, UKCP registered
I'm a warm and down to earth psychotherapist with almost fifteen years of experience working in the NHS and privately. I have an engaged and proactive approach and listen closely and respectfully to what you want to focus on. We'll look for genuine, not superficial solutions which are relevant to your specific concerns.
Rather than looking for disorder/illness we will explore how you're making sense of life. I want to draw out and strengthen the life skills/wisdom that you already have.
My therapeutic model is an integrative one which combines the constructive outlook of cognitive behavioural therapy with the depth of other approaches. It will challenge you but ultimately respect your unique approach to life.
I particularly specialise in working with depression, anxiety (including panic attacks), low self esteem, sexual issues, relationship and couple issues and more general feelings of dissatisfaction/unhappiness.
The first session
In the first session we'll discuss what's brought you to therapy and how therapy might help you. You'll begin to get a sense of how I work. There's no obligation to have further sessions. If you do decide to continue I offer both short term and open ended therapy but you are of course free to stop at any point.
Location, transport, parking
I'm located between Golders Green and Finchley Central tube stations. The house is a five minute walk from several bus routes. You can park on the street.
I also have have a practice in Central London - on Theobalds Road (Holborn/Chancery Lane).
Please scroll down to the video I've uploaded where I talk a little bit more about myself and my approach.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at The School of Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regents University, gaining a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy (2003) and an Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy (2004).
