About me

Hello and welcome.

I’m trained and experienced in delivering face to face, telephone and online counselling. Please contact me to arrange a free of charge initial assessment on the phone. My aim is to help you to lead a calmer, happier and more fulfilling life. I specialise in Anxiety, personal and work-related relationship stress, bereavement and loss, low mood and depression, low self-esteem and sadness, relationships and any other issue that may be causing you distress. During difficult periods in our lives, we can all benefit from additional emotional support and this is what I seek to provide during our sessions together.

My training is person-centred which concentrates on the therapeutic relationship between me and the client. I am always amazed at what can be achieved once a relationship based on trust begins to develop.

The techniques I use involve listening, accepting, understanding, encouraging and sharing on an equal level. I firmly believe that to get the best out of counselling, it is important to choose a therapist that is right for you. I have a calm and friendly manner and provide a peaceful and trusting space where we can work together to achieve a positive outcome.

Clients say I make a positive difference to their lives and I respond to each individual client with warmth, care and encouragement to begin the journey to a better way of living. I treat each client as an individual and adapt my practise accordingly.

I have experience in helping clients who have difficulties with:

  • anxiety
  • stress (personal and work related)
  • bereavement
  • low self-esteem
  • panic attacks
  • depression
  • relationships
  • life changes and endings

As well as many years experience of face to face counselling, I worked for 2 years on a helpline with victim support and more recently with Cruse bereavement on their Early Intervention Programme offering phone support so am used to communicating and counselling by phone should you prefer sessions via Zoom etc online. My aim is to enable you to talk through your problems and work towards a more positive future for yourself. Most recently, I have worked for over 5 years with Mind as a counsellor on a variety of mental health issues, I am proud to have been awarded Voluntary counsellor of the year on 2 occasions. I have trained and am a member of PODS ) positive outcomes for dissociative survivors).

Currently I am working either on the telephone or online in accordance with national guidelines and will work with you to tailor the sessions for your comfort.

What is counselling?

When life feels just too hard to face alone and emotions are overwhelming, it can help to share the burden and feel supported with a professional counsellor. I work in a person-centred way by accepting whatever the client brings to the session in a warm, empathic and non-judgemental way. Sessions take place in a safe and comfortable space and are completely confidential.

What can you expect from our sessions?

The initial assessment is free of charge and offers an opportunity to see if we are comfortable working together.

Picking up the phone can feel daunting but offers you a chance to discuss what you wish to bring to counselling and what you can expect from the sessions.

If you decide to commit to counselling, we can then agree to work together for a fixed number of sessions with regular reviews.  You will always be greeted with warmth and respect in a safe and caring environment.

I practise in accordance with BACP guidelines.
My many satisfied clients say that counselling has helped them to understand and deal with their issues and unload their burden. I am often told "I feel lighter".

Counselling isn't a quick fix and can be challenging but talking to a trained professional can be the first positive step to a brighter and happier future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My counselling rooms are on the ground floor of my home and involve no stairs.
