  • Spirituality

Some people believe their issue is not serious enough to warrant counselling so they rule themselves out from seeking support.  If you are one of them then you are not alone, it’s a common misconception and can make you feel too embarrassed to reach out. However, counselling is a potential avenue that can help with a variety of common problems that are making you unhappy. Counselling can be an investment in developing yourself which can pay future dividends.  How is that, well, counselling offers you the opportunity for you to learn new skills which you can apply both now and in the future to improve the quality of your life. I have a toolbox of interventions that can be tailored to your situation.   As they say ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always get’.  Doing something different may help.

Whatever the situation, taking those first steps to attend therapy takes courage and as a qualified counsellor, I can help.

We can work together towards reaching your goals and resolve issues, see things more clearly  or from a different perspective.

What is counselling and how does it help

At some point everyone will face challenging situations in their life and counselling is a therapy where you can feel free to talk about these issues and get support at a regular time in a safe and confidential place.

Counselling helps you explore difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviour and look at ways you can make changes.

It’s not about giving you advice or telling you what you should do but aims to assist you in gaining a better understanding of yourself and your situation and finding ways to move forward and live your life more positively.  Importantly by gaining awareness of yourself and situations, changes can take place.

Counselling is completely confidential; I will listen without judgement. I can help people who feel trapped in a situation and not sure where to go or what to do next. Counselling allows you to talk openly and freely which you can not always do with family and friends.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
