About me

Counselling is a relationship between the counsellor and client in which both contribute and work together to help the client achieve greater well being.

I am a fully qualified and registered Integrative Counsellor and Supervisor.

This means I have been trained to use a variety of approaches / models of therapy in my work. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Transactional Analysis (TA) Gestalt, Psychodynamic Therapy, Jungian and Creative methods all of which I offer from a Person Centered frame of reference.

I see everyone as an individual; we all learn in different ways and approach life from very different starting points. Working in this way allows me to experience each client as an individual. I offer this in a professional, supportive, confidential, compassionate and non judgemental environment.

I work with a variety of life issues more of which are mentioned below. I have a particular interest in working with clients who identify with issues related to:

Co - dependency, low self esteem, relationship related problems, divorce, separation and loss, addiction, or those impacted by other peoples addictions, depression, anxiety and stress. Bereavement both pre and post.

I have had extensive experience in working with problem gamblers partners and family members of problem gamblers. Having had specialised training to work with gambling addiction which I continue to have on-going training from Gamcare, (A National Problem Gambling Organisation in UK).

I have over a decade of experience in working with loss and bereavement. I have worked within an adult hospice providing group and 1-2-1 supervision to counsellors who work solely with bereavement and loss issues.

I offer Supervision to counsellors working in private practice.

In the past I've worked in a GP's surgery counselling adults. Clients were referred with a range of concerns including; infertility problems, multiple miscarriages, chronic fatigue, disordered eating, depression and anxiety. I’ve also worked with clients who have been diagnosed with cancer and those recovering from cancer treatments. I’ve worked with carers who find it difficult to get what they need for themselves. I’ve work with clients who have medically unexplained symptoms and in counselling we can start to find a way to understand the symptoms.

I have over 28 years experience of working as an alternative health practitioner which has given me a wealth of understanding in working with many physical conditions. I continue to have an interest in the connection between mind, body and emotions and the nonverbal aspects of communication and relating.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
