Profile
I am an experienced and qualified Person-Centered therapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have worked extensively with both adults and young people and have experience of working with a wide range of issues which include anger management, depression, abuse, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and loss and bereavement.
About me
I was approaching my forties when I became a therapist after a somewhat diverse and interesting career path. I firmly believe that the experiences that I have had were all necessary, if not apparent at the time, in supporting me in the role that I now have. My own personal journey through significant life changes eventually led me to develop my professional practice in which I continue to be inspired by the power of the therapeutic relationship and the personal achievements and growth that often transpire. I think my own experiences enable me to recognise the courage that is often drawn upon in approaching therapy as a first step in offering yourself an opportunity for change.......an achievement in itself.
What is counselling?
Counselling is about talking to someone, whom you trust, about your worries, concerns, difficulties or anxieties. It can provide the space and time for you to explore and express your thoughts and feelings, often enabling you to feel clearer and less confused. The process can help you to achieve insight and the ability to resolve a situation in your life. It is an opportunity to seek something different for your life and is the first step in a process of change. The process can be exciting and deeply meaningful whilst also uncomfortable at times.
My philosophy
As a Person-Centred therapist I listen in such a way that is non-judgemental; I do not give you advice or tell you what to do but try to help you reach your own answers, outcomes and decisions. My philosophy is that every individual has an innate capability to realise their full potential. Counselling can provide the environment whereby you can connect with your own inner resources and develop the capacity to reflect upon and make your own choices in life, enabling you to overcome blocks to achieving health and well-being.
