I am honest and down to earth. I have 13+ years of counselling experience, both in private practice, for a charity and 9 of those years working for the NHS in a criminal justice settting. I am fully qualified and accredited with BACP and I am on the BACP Register. I will respectfully support you and walk alongside you, at your pace - gently enabling you, to find your truth, your solution or your goal.
I will not judge you whatever issues you bring. Everything you say to me is totally confidential as outlined in the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy guidelines.
I work within the BACP guidelines of good practise.
I am a Person Centred counsellor and I integrate other models (for example short solution focussed therapy, ) if they would be helpful.
My specialisms are addiction, OCD, loss & bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues for individuals, bullying, abuse (often from childhood), depression, stress, anxiety, low self esteem, low self worth and work related issues, eating disorders, trauma and anger management.
How can counselling help?
I am often asked "how can just talking about my problem help me"? It seems so simple - talking about it. But talking to an experienced counsellor who is really listening to what you are saying and is there just for you, can 'clear the fog' and enable you to see which path to take. You then feel empowered to move on with your life - if that is what you choose.
I feel humbled and privileged when I see a client who came to therapy in turmoil, flourishing when they leave.
A grateful client, when ending 2 years of therapy, wrote that counselling had made her a beautiful butterfly. She had wings and she could not wait to try them out!
I realise how expensive training to be a counsellor is. So to encourage new counsellors, I offer a reduced fee for counselling students.
Give me a call and I will happily discuss further with you how counselling may be able to help.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Higher National Diploma in Counselling. This covered mainly Person Centred therapy but also Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Family systems and Loss and Bereavement. I also trained in addiction with ACAD using Solution Focussed therapy. I have since completed further training in Dual Diagnosis, Motivational Interviewing and Counselling Survivors of Sexual Abuse.
My latest training was in Eating Disorders, Mental Health First Aid, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and further training in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and working with trauma.
I have more than 13 years counselling experience as a qualified therapist.
I have completed many hours of short term counselling for employee assistance programmes in my private practice, enabling people to return to work more quickly than they would otherwise have done.
I work with individuals who have contacted me through Counselling Directory, who may be in crisis, who want answers to why they feel as they do, and have decided that now is the time to confront childhood demons or who have reached a transitional stage in their lives and need to decide which path to take.
Everyone I see is unique and so is their own personal journey.
