Many GPs are now recognising the benefits of counselling as opposed to reaching for the anti-depressants; sometimes both are needed in order to give that extra bit of inner strength to see you through at times of trouble or distress, much like a house who's foundations are a bit rocky so the scaffolding goes up as a temporary measure. I beleive this is a good analogy when thinking about counselling. We have only one brain, so if it becomes tired and overloaded it will tell you through your body.
I can help with many of life's challenges when they become just too much to cope with. They might be overwhelming you, making you feel vulnerable or scared and they may be preventing you from seeing a clear way through.
Sometimes friends and family cannot provide enough of the right support and that is where counselling can help. You will be received in non-judgemental way and counselling may be the only time you feel safe enough to explore your inner thoughts.
Counselling offers you the chance to reflect deeply with your counsellor facilitating this process, thus helping you decide what you want to do. Counselling is not being told what to do; only you can know what is right for you and together we'll explore all your options.
You might be feeling alone but you do not need to face everything in life alone. It's OK to seek help.
I have a private practice in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells. Due to demand, evening appointments are now available.
I offer short term counselling (8 sessions) and longer term work where required.

Training, qualifications & experience
I have counselled in a GP practice for over three years. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics (copy available upon request). I have an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling.
Humanistic Counselling (often known as Person Centred Counselling) is at the core of my work but I also draw on other models, i.e. Transactional Analysis and Psychosynthesis. This means I can be flexible in my approach to clients and adapt the way in which I work to suit client needs. This is also known as Integrative Counselling.
Some of the issues I have helped past clients with include: bullying, low self-esteeem, homophobia, domestic and emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, childhood traumas, rape, post traumatic stress disorder, addictions in families, depression, physical differences, relationship problems, terminations, stress, bereavement, parental problems, victims of crime.
Some years ago I helped to set up a local support group "Families Anonymous" - a group which meets weekly to support those whose lives have been disrupted by addictions of all kinds. I have been invited to speak on local radio in this capacity and from time to time I appear as guest speaker at "Families Anonymous".
I have also worked for the charity "Victim Support".
