About me

Why talking can be helpful:
As a clinical psychologist, I have had extensive training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches that can support people in dealing with a variety of difficulties. The 'everyday experiences of life' can present us with many challenges. It can be valuable to take time to talk about feelings of anxiety, low mood, anger, worry or relational issues, or habits or behaviours that you would like to move on from. I am committed to helping people develop and achieve what is important to them, in accordance with their values and beliefs. I believe that taking time to talk through the things that matter to us, is time well spent and can bring about positive change. Talking can help us to climb up above an issue and look down on it, like viewing the terrain of our lives from a high vantage point. This new perspective can suggest new ways round obstacles and new ways forwards.

What to expect from conversations:
I am interested in the stories people tell about their lives, exploring the stories which have been overlooked, forgotten about or which have remained untold. Problems and difficulties can overshadow other parts of our lives. I am interested in helping people consider all aspects of their lives, to find new stories about their abilities and values which might have been overlooked. I try to help people access their own knowledge and expertise about their lives, while also sharing knowledge and expertise that I have gained over the years, both from training and from the people I have worked with, about what might help. Conversations will focus on whatever you would like to talk about; we might discuss your goals, changes you would like to make, important relationships, or current difficulties such as a troubling experience, painful memories or symptoms which get in the way of your life.

How I work:
I utilise a variety of therapeutic approaches to help people think about the 'everyday problems of life', such as in their personal, work or home life, as well as difficulties which can feel more challenging. Psychological models which I draw on include cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative therapy and systemic approaches. My training and experience allow me to tailor an approach to the individual or couple. Work can be focused and short term or more exploratory and longer term, according to individual need, preference or situation- we can agree this together.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I have further training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Systemic approaches and Narrative therapy. I have 15 years experience working in both the NHS and now Children's Services with children, adolescents, and adults. My experience has included supporting people with a range of psychological, emotional, behavioural and relational difficulties. Currently I work as a Principal Clinical Psychologist for a Children’s Services team, working with children and young adults who are in care or who have had experience of the care system. This is rewarding work, and can involve supporting people to work with painful experiences of loss, as well as celebrating their achievements.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and am a member of the British Psychological Society and the Division of Clinical Psychology.
