Profile
As a psychodynamic Counsellor, I focus on how our past affects our present. Having the opportunity to disclose and explore our past, our true thoughts and feelings, our difficulties and experiences (however painful) in a safe, containing, empathic and non-judgmental environment can have a positive affect on our future. We can also learn to accept our life stories. The relationship that we share will form a base for our therapeutic work and provide a true reflection of all others that we build providing the opportunity for change and personal growth.
Since qualifying as a Counsellor, I have practised in a variety of different settings. These include a 'Women's Centre', an adolescent counselling agency, a loss and bereavement counselling service and a large counselling agency based in Northampton.
I have a large amount of experience working with individuals who have suffered great trauma or abuse during their life times.
I work with adolescents and have an informed understanding and great empathy for the struggles that this age range imposes.
I work with people who have endured 'loss' and are finding this difficult to overcome or simply need the opportunity to discuss their personal bereavement.
I work with people who have a specific difficulty which is adversely affecting their lives, such as a fear/phobia of a certain aspect/object.
Where necessary, I have worked specifically with women focusing on specific issues that can affect them during the lifecycle, such as pregnancy, abortion, adoption or menopause.
I have a history of working in the learning disabilities sector. This allows me an understanding of the additional difficulties that may be faced by both the individual who has a disability and those who care for them.
I am dedicated to Continuing Professional Development and am continually updating and advancing my own professional practice. For this reason, I enjoy working with students training within the Counselling/Psychotherapy field.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their Ethical framework for good practice.
