About me

Who is counselling for?

People often think that counselling is just for people who have had a ‘bad childhood’ or have been abused; However the reality is counselling is for everyone and anyone who wants to reflect on where they are in life and make some changes.

Over our lifetime we are exposed to many adverse experiences, most of which we take in our stride, however cumulatively it all adds up and can start to impinge on our enjoyment of life and our ability to deal with the stress and strain of life.

This is sometimes highlighted in the moments of life where we are most vulnerable, things bubble up like a volcano and suddenly erupt!

How can counselling help?

Counselling is a talking therapy which allows you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe space without Judgement. The core conditions of a person centred counsellor are to offer positive regard, to be non-judgemental, to be genuine, honest and empathic (to see things from your point of view). When a person experiences the core conditions, over time, they are able to work through their own thoughts and feelings and make long lasting changes.

As a professional BACP counsellor I believe most individuals have the internal resources needed for growth and change.

Where do you go to access help?

Support from the NHS is improving and that is great news, however most counselling on the NHS is time limited and waiting lists are often several months.

If you:

  • Do not want to speak to your GP about how you are feeling or do not want depression or anxiety on your medical record.
  • Do not want to wait for help.
  • Require support out of office hours or in your own home.
  • Want to choose the therapist you feel most comfortable working with.

To ensure best practice, as with all qualified and registered BACP counsellors, I attend regular supervision. Supervision is a place for counsellors to work with a qualified supervisor to explore what has come up for them whilst working with a client, there is minimal disclosure about the client and the objective is to ensure the counsellor is working within the BACP ethical framework.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Whilst I am qualified and experienced in a wide range of issues that come up in life, over the years I have developed a particular interest in supporting women through the transition into motherhood and all the challenges that come with that change.

I also have great interest in supporting parents of children who display challenging behaviour and sensory issues.

Most clients start to experience change within 6-10 sessions, however, everyone is different and results are not guaranteed.
