About me

I offer short and long term counselling in a discreet and welcoming environment.

I act with integrity, openness and professionalism. I aim to create a warm, supportive and safe space which enables you to explore the difficulties you are facing and in which growth, change and healing can take place.

As a biographical counsellor I am interested in working with your biography or life story. Although looking back at the past can be challenging, with the support of counselling you can discover patterns in your biography and gain a new understanding of your life journey. I aim to accompany and support you in a respectful and non judgemental way.

In our work together we may talk, use art, writing, movement and other methods, based on what we both feel is right for you.

Developing a relationship of shared trust and respect is very important for counselling to work well and, for this reason, I offer an initial 30 minute consultation at a reduced rate (please enquire). This initial meeting will inform you of the way I work and provide an opportunity for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework of good practice. I undertake regular training and personal and professional development in order to maintain my knowledge and skills.

In line with professional standards, I have regular supervision and I am insured.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained with the Biography and Social Development Trust to be a biographical counsellor. My training is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) of which I am a member.

I have previously trained as lawyer and a teacher.

I worked for thirteen years as an early years teacher at Edinburgh Steiner School and I bring to my practice the rich experience of pastoral care of adults and children alike.

I have great experience and interest in parenting issues and self development, childhood trauma and abuse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
