Louise Smith, Dip Couns, Reg MBACP
I am a fully qualified BACP registered counsellor with over 9 years of experience with many different kinds of issues working with both male and female clients. I became a counsellor after volunteering for Barnados for a number of years. I have worked on a number of projects within Barnados including inclusion projects for young people with learning disabilities, family liaison, independent visitor for looked after children and being an advocate for them.
I currently work in a women's centre, the majority of women that I see are suffering with low self esteem and confidence, anxiety and depression. My experience has seen a wide range of people and problems including panic attacks, bipolar disorder/ manic depression, obsessive thoughts and behaviours, bereavement and complicated grief, relationships, sexual and physiological abuse, relationships and family issues, dissociation and dissociative identity disorder.
I also work in senior schools working with male and female students and adapt my approach to fit with the specific needs of young people. I hold an Enhanced Certificate with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Our first session is to meet and to discuss what you might like from our sessions, some clients don't know what they want from counselling but know they want to feel better. As I am a person centred counsellor it means that it's at your pace and we will look at what you're experiencing in a caring and gentle way, this may be something you're going through right now or something you have experienced in your past.
I also offer CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which is a solution focused therapy. CBT is used primarily within the NHS as it is an effective treatment for Depression and Anxiety.
I currently have weekday availability which is mostly on a Friday, parking is available outside the premises with frequent bus and train services 5 minutes walk away.
