Louise Hewitson, BA (Hons), MBACP (Accred)

Admitting you’re struggling with a particular area of your life and could do with some extra support is a challenge for many of us. But there are many reasons why the internal or external resources we usually rely on might not be working as well as they have done in the past. It may be that a recent event is leaving you feeling overwhelmed, or perhaps more of an ongoing struggle to make sense of your thoughts and emotions. Whatever brings you to therapy, I always aim to offer a welcoming and confidential space in which to explore the challenges you are facing, and support you to make positive changes in your life.
As a BACP accredited practitioner, I practise integrative therapy, which means that I combine different counselling methods to find the right therapy for each individual, with the belief that everyone is unique and therefore no one therapy is suitable for all. I believe that our past influences our present, and this can often hold vital information about why we are struggling with particular issues today. It can be helpful to identify patterns that may have been in place for many years, and explore the reasons surrounding the formation of these habits.
I also offer Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful technique which can provide dramatic shifts in emotional states. It aims to eliminate the emotional intensity which can so often still be felt from past distressing or traumatic experiences, and is also incredibly effective at addressing phobias and addictive behaviours. If you would be interested in exploring the possibilities of EMDR and how it might help you, please do get in touch.
I have experience from a range of clinical settings, including the NHS, Employee Assistance Programmes and community counselling services. I am currently Head of Counselling in a charity, which complements my work in private practice.
If you would like to speak by phone in the first instance, I would be very happy to answer any questions you may have.
