About me

I offer you a space to be curious, non judgemental and seek out what you are looking for

Hello.
My approach is simple.  I passionately believe that everyone needs to be heard and valued.  Sometimes we reach a point where we need another to walk with us, take time to understand us, and to provide us with a safe space to explore ourselves.  This is what I aim to provide.

I’m qualified as an Integrative counsellor which means I use knowledge and skills from several approaches (Person Centred, Solution Focussed & Psychodynamic Therapy) and integrate them depending on your unique needs and wishes.

From my personal experience as a client and as a counsellor, I believe a fundamental aspect of this work, regardless of approach, is the creation and development of a good working relationship between client and counsellor.  This is a unique, gentle and yet powerful relationship.

It is about you – your life, your hopes, your experiences, your thoughts and feelings.  And my role as a skilled and trained practitioner is to reflect back what I see, hear and feel being with you.  I will ask you questions (which are sometimes hard to answer!) to get you thinking about you and your life.  Through this process of questioning, thinking,  reflecting, and discovering you will see and experience yourself more fully.

How we'll work together

The pace will be set by you.   We’ll initially spend time understanding what you're struggling with and identifying your best hopes.  For some people this is straightforward as they have a very clear idea of what they want and what the problem is. It might be changes you want to make within your relationships, or perhaps you are suffering with depression, anxiety or addiction, and want a life moving away from those things.

Counselling gives you the gifts of time and space.  My job is to provide you with the safety and encouragement to reach a point which feels meaningful and enough for you.   The different hopes people come with are very broad.  For some people they want short term support to get through a recent event or change that they're struggling with.  For others, the affects of early experiences or current problems run deeper and are preventing them from enjoying their lives in the way they wish.

So how do I work to reach this point with you?

We will begin by exploring your best hopes from counselling which sets out the path you are looking to take.  I will work alongside you, explore in detail the future you are trying to create, maybe slow things down, pay attention to the little things you say, be curious, wonder where they may have originated and look at how they are impacting and serving you now.  Together we’ll encourage the parts of you that feels scared, hurt, ashamed, or angry (to name but a few) to find a voice.  Not forgetting as well the parts that feel excited, hopeful, creative and connected (to name a few more....)

We may also look at the everyday routines and patterns of life.  How are these helping or maintaining your life?  What changes do you want to make?  What thoughts and feelings might be keeping you stuck?  How will life look differently as you move further towards where you want to be?  What resources, and skills, and beliefs do you have already that will help you get moving in that direction?

So if these make you feel excited and hopeful, get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

What is my background?

In 2023 I became an Accredited BACP counsellor (reflecting my 15+ years experience).  I qualified in 2012, (Diploma in Integrative Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling).  I added to this in 2015 by further developing my practice in completing training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy as well.

I’ve worked (short and long term) with a broad range of issues and clients from a lot of different backgrounds, and at different life stages.  Every person is different.  It is what I love about this work.

I came to counselling as a 2nd career after working in the corporate world for many years in Human Resources.  I have 2 children and recognise the fundamental importance of good relationships – and the challenges we all face in building these.

As part of my training and beyond, I set out to gain a variety of experiences working with a range of clients and issues.

  • I currently also work with Oxfordshire Mind, supporting people in various ways with their overall wellbeing and mental health.
  • I've worked in a University setting with students on a lot of different issues from loss, transition and change, stress, anxiety and OCD, self confidence, addiction, relationship issues and depression.
  • I've worked with the specific client group of 'parents to be' or 'new parents' struggling with a range of issues from pregnancy termination and loss, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder following birth, and post natal depression as well as more broad parenting issues.
  • I've worked with people struggling with substance misuse and addictions, supporting them to explore and understand the roots of these ways of coping, and hopefully discover new ways to manage.
  • I have also worked providing longer term counselling for people struggling with addictions and past trauma and damage caused by early attachments.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
