About me
About Me
Hello and welcome to my profile. I am a qualified and Accredited EMDR Practitioner and Accredited Integrative Counsellor accredited with the EMDR Europe and the BACP. I work with adults and couples , who see me for help with a variety of issues including emotional issues, childhood issues, anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety and public speaking, panic attacks, depression and phobias. I am also experienced in supporting couples and individuals with relationship issues, including betrayals, divorce and separation, feelings of dissatisfaction in relationship/s and unhelpful ways of communicating to name but a few.
How I work
I work online using video or instant chat or face to face counselling. Working in an integrative way means I don't adhere to any one counselling theory. For me counselling is not 'one size fits all' so I incorporate different established theories to suit the unique needs of my clients. This includes EMDR, humanistic and CBT . I prefer to work collaboratively with my client to explore and understand their difficulties and enable them to find a way to forward that provides a long term foundation of resilience to cope and deal with the inevitable stressors of everyday life.
EMDR - The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. Much of this natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Francine Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987, utilising this natural process than has been evidenced to effectively treat a wide range of mental and emotional health problems including trauma, anxiety including social anxiety, performance anxiety phobias and fears, low self esteem and low self confidence to name a few.
EMDR - Anxiety and Phobias No one likes to feel afraid. Most of us don’t even like to admit to feeling afraid, and yet anxiety and phobias are extremely common. If fear has been affecting your life then EMDR therapy can help you to overcome your fears. Some common phobias include fear of flying, fear of dogs, fear of driving, medical phobias. social phobia, birth trauma and other medical procedures and fear of public speaking however this list is no exhaustive. The fast-paced world that we live in contributes to ongoing stressors for many of us which can make anxiety feel like our norm. Stress can be healthy up to a certain point as it serves as a source of motivation. However, when stress is ongoing and overwhelming feelings of fear or distress affect the way we function on a daily basis, an anxiety disorder could be the issue. Anxiety can present in many forms and it can be difficult to distinguish. Anxiety disorders are often some combination of worrisome thoughts that are difficult to control, feelings of fear, and physical symptoms such as pounding heart and difficulty breathing. Therefore, to fully heal from anxiety means to heal from the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of it. As EMDR has continued to develop over the years, it has found to be effective for treating all anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder
Couples Counselling
Every relationship requires a considerate amount of time and effort to maintain a strong intimate connection. The presence of difficulties and warning signs does not mean that the couple is doomed to fail, but rather that more work is needed to understand what is lacking in the couple dynamic.
I offer a caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you find a way through any difficulties you may be facing in your relationship/s. I can support you to recognize and better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of distress. Talking about issues with a trained therapist present can be extremely useful in helping you to understand your problems and enable you to work together to overcome them.

Experience
I have gained a vast experience of working with people with a wide range of issues over the years through private work and with local charities.
As well as working privately with clients experiencing a diverse range of issues I also work as a counsellor at a crisis centre for clients recovering from recent or historic sexualised trauma. I also work with young people for another local charity who have issues with drugs, alcohol, family and school life.
Additionally I worked for a Charity for Ex-Military and provided a counselling service to ex-service men experiencing PTSD. Other experience includes working as counsellor for a domestic abuse charity and Childline.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I offer daytime and evening appointments. I offer the first online session for free.
Sessions are most often once each week and for 50 minutes but frequency and duration can be adapted to meet your needs and circumstances.
On line counselling: £65.00 per 50 minute session
Face to face counselling: £65 per 50 minute session
Couples counselling: £90.00 per 1 hour session
