About me

Sessions can be online or face to face depending on your preference.

Life can be hard, you may be struggling in your relationships, feeling depressed or anxious, coping after a bereavement or you just don't feel quite right.

Perhaps your childhood experiences are affecting you in adult life. Maybe you and your partner are just not getting along and you need some help from someone that does not know you or your family....someone neutral and objective.

Counselling can help you explore, understand, perhaps accept and move on from such issues. If you feel ready to consider counselling then you are on the road to change which can be daunting as well as exciting!

My aim is to support whatever you may bring to sessions, to walk beside you as a supportive, friendly and ethical practitioner that will value your journey and hopefully help you understand who you are and what you can become.

A bit about Me

I knew I needed help when life changes, such as the death of my much loved Mum from cancer, left me feeling life was too difficult and overwhelming.

I appeared to be coping well...working, bringing up my daughters and seeing friends; but inside I was struggling. I understand how tough life can be sometimes and how scary asking for help can be. I found my own counselling challenging at first as I felt uncomfortable talking to a complete stranger...but now I regularly nip back to my counsellor when I feel I need to.

I am an accredited counsellor (BACP and NCS) and have experience of working with all age groups including children, teenagers, adults, older adults and couples. I have worked within schools counselling children as well as parents.

I am a trained anxiety management counsellor with experience in teaching anxiety management techniques and supporting clients to manage anxiety and stress in their lives.

I feel the heart of successful therapy is the relationship between counsellor and client. It's really important that you feel at ease with your counsellor.

Working together within this safe environment we can fully explore the issues and concerns that you bring, helping you to lead a happier life.

I work with a wide range of issues such as parenting issues, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, sexual and physical abuse, loss, bereavement, low mood, work stress, relationship issues, depression, low self esteem and confidence issues, change of life events (such as job change, relocation, divorce, injury and pain)

It's not always easy sometimes to figure out what exactly is 'wrong', so if you aren't sure why you don't seem to be enjoying life as much as you could, I will do my best to help you identify just what it is that will transform your life.

I am a registered member of ACTO (online counselling body) and a trained fertility counsellor enabling me to support men, women and couples experiencing fertility issues as well as carry out implications counselling for egg/sperm/embryo donors and recipients.

As a Barnardos trained adoption counsellor I am qualified to provide counselling to anyone who has an adoption experience including adoptees, adoptors and other family members such as siblings or grandparents.

My practice includes self referrals, referrals from foster agencies, adoption organisations, schools and colleges, GP practices and private companies looking for counselling or supervision. This is delivered via Zoom as an online session or I can provide one to one or group sessions in-house.

I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor providing supervision, training and support to counsellors, nurses, acupuncturists, head teachers and teaching staff. Please email or call to discuss your needs.

I regularly attend ongoing professional development events, training and courses to ensure my skills and knowledge remain up-to-date as well as receiving regular supervision.

I also try and look after myself and encourage my clients to do the same. In this busy world we can too easily forget to practice some self-care and regard ourselves as an endless resource!

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Trained and experienced in working with adult survivors of childhood abuse. Using my trauma three stage training I am able to help survivors to learn grounding techniques and staying present in order to process their trauma which leads to less flashbacks, dissociation and disconnection, less anxiety and depression and eventually leading to a happier life.

I offer coaching to clients who feel stuck in their careers and those who feel unsure what path to take next in life. This can be a highly rewarding and challenging process yet produces a shift and change that allows clearer direction and movement in life.

One of my joys is working with students undertaking counselling training. I offer supervision or counselling and provide a safe, caring and educative space that enables the student to feel supported and valued....and less daunted by the challenges of the training !
