I am an experienced UKCP Registered Psychotherapeutic counsellor.
For all of us there are times when we need more support than a friend or relative can offer and it might be helpful to talk to someone who is trained to listen.
Counselling can help you;
- take more control of your life
- gain support in making difficult decisions
- think and reflect about yourself and your life
- make sense of your thoughts and feelings
- talk about difficult, distressing experiences and feelings
I provide a confidential, non-judgemental safe space to support you to explore your thoughts and feelings about issues and relationships at a pace which suits you. I aim to facilitate you to develop insight, increase self-esteem and well-being and to make lasting positive changes to your life.
Training, qualifications & experience
My name is Lorraine Emms and I am a fully Accredited UKCP Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
I received my training at the Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute (SCPTI) and I abide by the code of ethics set down by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
How I work
I work relationally with clients using an integrative approach that utilises the most productive elements of many of the popular types of therapy used today. Primarily I use both the Gestalt and TA models of therapy in a relational setting as I find them to be the most productive.

I currently charge £35 per hour for individual therapy and £45 per hour for couples work (see below for price concessions).
In the current climate where NHS waiting lists are choc a block, many who could possibly benefit from some sort of therapy are simply not getting their needs met soon enough by the system.
Any type of private therapy of course can be a costly commitment and another outgoing at this moment may be a frightening thought.
To assist with this I use a sliding scale payment system, which enables price concessions for those on a low income, armed forces personnel, disability, pension etc. Please contact me to discuss this further. This also applies for those wishing to make the commitment to enter long-term therapy or for trainee therapists who have to be in therapy for the duration of their training.
