I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP offering individual and couple counselling sessions in Colchester. Individual sessions are offered to adults and adolescents (12+). Couple sessions are offered to any two people who both want to work on their relationship; this could be partners, parent and child, or siblings.
I also offer single two hour sessions for individuals that feel having one longer therapeutic session would be of use to them without on going sessions.
Individuals and couples often come to therapy for a specific reason, a life event or some area of difficulty that is troubling them. Or perhaps there is no specific event that you can name but a feeling of being lost or confused, experiencing anxiety or depression. By offering a non-judgemental empathetic space for clients to explore thoughts and feelings, I can help clients find the clarity and understanding they are looking for.
My assessment and overall approach is usually drawn from person-centred therapy, which means I hold a safe, empathetic space for you to talk and explore your feelings; gently offering questions and observations on what I hear you saying so that you can further investigate and understand yourself. However, as an Integral Therapist I have studied many models of therapy (such as Gestalt; psycho-dynamic; CBT) and can draw on this range of knowledge to use techniques and exercises that may help you best at that moment.
I generally suggest starting with six sessions and then we can decide together how to continue.
I am a Registered Member of the BACP and as such I follow their code of conduct and adhere to their ethical framework.
I attend regular supervision sessions with a senior practitioner to ensure that my work remains at a high standard.

I work with adults, adolescents (age 12+), and couples.
I have a particular interest in working with the 'quarter life crisis'; men and women in their late 20s and early 30s, facing many difficult issues this time in life brings. (This may include relationship issues; parenthood difficulties; step and blended families; stress; anxiety; depression; childhood trauma; self esteem; body confidence; sexuality; gender identity; pressure of expectations; and feelings of being unfulfilled or lost.)
I also have experience working with paraphilic disorders, including sex and porn addictions.

*I offer two types of therapy. Either we agree a regular appointment time when I will reply to your email or we agree to non scheduled appointments, and I will reply within 48 hours of your email. Working this way enables me more flexibility to reply before or after my scheduled appointments, this is why I offer this at a reduced rate. However, the reply will not be rushed or condensed and will still offer the same level of skill and experience as my other work.
Payment is due at the end of each session. I accept cash, cheque, debit/credit card* or bank transfer. I do ask that bank transfers are made 24 hours before the session.
*There is a £1 fee added to each card payment.
I do ask for 48 hours notice of cancellations otherwise my full fee will be charged.
After working with clients for many years I know that one of the most important things for clients is flexibility not only in models of therapy I can offer but in the way I can offer therapy. And one of the most enjoyable things about working in private practice for me is the ability to work with a variety of clients in a variety of ways, this is why I have completed further training to be able to offer more avenues for therapy.
I offer the following:
In-person therapy at my office for adults, adolescents (12+) and couples.
Online video therapy via a secure online platform, for adults, adolescents and couples.
Instant chat therapy via a secure online platform for adults. In some instances I may be able to offer this to adolescents but this would need to assessed.
Telephone therapy for adults.
Email therapy via a secure email service, for adults and in some instances this may be offered to adolescents but would need to be assessed.
Email therapy is offered in two ways. Either you email me when you wish and I reply within 48 hours of received payment or we agree a time and day when I will reply to your email. This may be best if you know you would struggle to not open my reply as soon as you receive it which may be difficult if you are at work for instance.
