About me

Are you struggling but have no-one to talk to or who understands? Would you like space and time to be listened to with someone you can trust? I hope to create a safe place in which you can feel accepted, not judged, free to explore whatever you are finding difficult and make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

I believe that having counselling can make a huge difference to your life as it has to mine. Everyone experiences problems in their lives and we all have times when we feel unable to cope and very alone. Sometimes too many difficult things happen at once and we can’t see a way out of confusion and pain. Counselling can really help at times like this. It is a way of helping you work out how to improve your life or cope better.

I am a person-centred counsellor and believe that you, the client, are of central importance. If provided with the right kind of support you can change and reach your potential. In a way it is like offering a relationship through pain, so you can feel accompanied, understood, prized and eventually more able to accept yourself.

The hardest thing is always to take the first step but it may be the best thing you could do! Please feel free to give me a ring or e-mail me for an initial meeting when we can see if this is for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor to Foundation Degree level, 11 years ago and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), working to their Code of Ethics.

I have a wide range of experience working with clients referred by their doctors in GP practices as well as working for the organisation Mind. I have worked for the last 30 years as a Clinical Pharmacist in various healthcare settings and come to realise that often it is being listened to that helps as much as  the medicine itself!

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
