About me

Having worked within the private and voluntary sectors for over 25 years, I am now available to provide counselling and supervision to individuals ONLINE OR BY TELEPHONE. Online work covers Instant Messaging and 'live' work via webcam/Skype. There are many advantages to online work:
* No travel
* Convenient, e.g. if your only free time is evenings but you don't like travelling in the dark
* Flexible
* Greater continuity - e.g. you think missing next week's session would disrupt the flow but are going to be away from home
* You have more control: you choose where you will be for your counselling or supervision (e.g. own home, friend's home, etc - somewhere you feel 'safe')
* Accessibility - e.g. suitable if you have speech or hearing impairment, or need specific seating/ disabled access, or find travelling difficult
* Cost effective as I have no room hire, or other overheads, to pay for, plus no travel costs for you

I can provide short or medium term counselling / psychotherapy, and ongoing counselling supervision to other practitioners. I have experience of working with people with a wide range of concerns within their lives, and with counsellors needing professional supervision for their work. I aim to work with you in a fair, honest and straightforward way, to explore your desired outcomes and set realistic 'goals'.

I will ask you to complete a short 'assessment' form before we begin and we will agree a way of working together, as well as timescales. Counselling work is usually once a week for 50 minutes each time. Counselling supervision is negotiable according to your needs, provided you are meeting your required supervision hours as a practitioner.

Training, qualifications & experience

University of Nottingham 1989-1991 Diploma in Professional Studies in Education (Human Relations in Professional Settings)

Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute 1990-1994 Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy

Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute 1993-1995 Clinical Supervision Training

OCST Online Supervision 1 July-October 2016

I qualified as a psychotherapist in 1994 and have worked in the private and voluntary sectors since this time. Following completion of training in 1995, I have also worked as a counselling supervisor with individuals and groups. I have supervised counsellors working with people who have been sexually abused recently, or in the past for over 20 years, as well as counsellors working with disabled people on a range of issues. I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of different concerns; from anxiety, depression, to relationship and family issues. I have experience of working with people with a range of impairments, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, stroke, long term ill health, hearing, speech and sight impairment. I have personal experience of supporting family members experiencing ill health, stroke, dementia; this gives me insight into the experience of people who are 'carers' for family members/ partners/ friends.

As well as counselling and supervision work, I have many years experience of working within the voluntary sector as a worker and manager. Through this I have worked with many different people from different backgrounds and of different ages; I believe this has enhanced my work as a supervisor and counsellor, as well as provide insight into the many and varied concerns affecting people in their lives.

I am a member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - MBACP Snr Accred.
