About me

HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

Are you easily angered or irritated but can't always explain why? Do you become panicked or stressed by things that others seem to shrug off? Do you have feelings of depression or feel anxious all the time? Perhaps it's difficult to know what your issue is, but you just know you are not in a good place and it's preventing you from having a fulfilling life.

What I offer is a safe space for you to be heard and I listen to you without judgement. There is no pressure in the counselling room. The space is for you to explore, express, reflect and address your difficulties in a way that will enable you to make the changes you want. Sometimes, though, you may just want to say nothing and that's ok too.

Please see below under 'Training, Qualifications and Experience' for a list of the issues I work.

HOW I WORK

I am a therapeutic counsellor and use an integrative model of counselling. This means that I draw on several theoretical counselling approaches and use continued professional development to help the client reach their goals. First and foremost, I develop a 'professional relationship' with the client so that we can agree on what the work will be. I am a great believer in psycho-education too, particularly when I am working with trauma and anxiety. Often clients want to know why they have feelings in particular parts of their body when it is their emotional state they sought help for. I can provide verbal or written explanations that may help the client understand what is happening in their body as well as their mind if they want it.

ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

I take confidentiality seriously and this is embedded into my professional qualification and membership. So, I offer a confidential, safe and accepting space for you to talk, explore and understand your feelings. Trust is essential to the counselling relationship and necessary to begin the process of change in the client. For me, the building of the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for the client's healing.

If you have any concerns about confidentiality, I can explain exactly how I keep all personal records and how they are disposed of.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been practising for 6 years in the voluntary sector including 3 years with MIND, carers and young people's organisations and have had positive feedback on my work. My professional qualifications include a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (and Level 2 and 3 HE counselling certificates previous to this) as well as further training in CBT and mindfulness and a host of other continued training courses. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions part of which means I regularly update my knowledge and skills with continuing professional development and have regular supervision.

My counselling experience and training covers a range of issues including depression and anxiety but I have more experience and training in helping clients with the following issues:

  • Cultural identity
  • panic attacks
  • irritability
  • difficulties around being a Carer
  • anger
  • stress
  • trauma whether that is one-off or repeated experiences
  • loss (bereavement, employment, relationship, lifestyle)
  • low self esteem
  • employment issues

Sometimes it is difficult to know exactly what it is you are experiencing but you just know you are not coping or you may be experiencing a number of issues. That is ok. I can talk to you initially on the telephone to get a sense of what is going on for you. There is no pressure and the call will be confidential.

Further information

The length of the counselling contract is by arrangement with you once we have agreed to work together.

I offer a free short telephone consultation to establish whether or not I will be able to help you and explain what the counselling process typically involves and hopefully answer any questions you have. The following stage will be a face to face meeting with you to undertake a counselling assessment and agree on how we will work together.

If you would like a short telephone consultation or more information about my practice, you can get in touch with me by calling 07948 221132 or emailing.
