About me

How can I help?

Sadness, anxiety, loneliness, stress, anger, panic. Are you experiencing any of these symptoms regularly? Perhaps you are easily angered, stressed or panicked but can't always explain why? Do you feel sad all the time? Whatever the issue is, you feel it is preventing you from having a happy and fulfilling life.

What I offer is a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk or just be. There is no pressure in the counselling room. The space is for you to explore, express, reflect and work through your difficulties in a way that will enable you to make the changes you want. The space is yours.

How I work

I use an integrative model of counselling. This means that I use several theoretical approaches and integrate these into a framework which is built around you. As well, I actively listen and try to build a 'professional relationship' with you so that we can agree on what the work will be.

In working with trauma, the work will be longer and may involve psycho-education about the physical experiences that occur in the brain and body.

ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

I take confidentiality seriously and this is embedded into my professional qualification and membership. So, I will offer you a confidential, discreet, quiet, safe and accepting space for you to talk, explore and understand your feelings.

Your records are kept confidentially and in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been practising for 6 years in the voluntary sector including 3 years with MIND as well as carers and young people's organisations. Here are a few comments I have received on my practice:

"I can't thank you enough for all your help and support over the last few months. Having you listen to me and provide me with coping techniques has been invaluable..." (2017)

"You've made a huge difference to my life...I was frequently impressed by your ability to bring me back on track..." (2015)

"a simple thank you....for patiently...trying to understand my complicated self" (2015)

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Level 2 and 3 HE counselling certificates in counselling.  Additional training in CBT and Mindfulness stress reduction and a host of other continued professional development training courses.

My counselling experience and training covers a range of issues including depression and anxiety but I have more experience and training in helping clients with the following issues:

  • Cultural identity
  • loss (bereavement, employment, relationship, lifestyle)
  • panic attacks
  • irritability
  • difficulties around being a Carer
  • anger
  • stress
  • trauma
  • loss (bereavement, employment, relationship, lifestyle)
  • low self esteem
  • employment issues

Sometimes it is difficult to know exactly what it is you are experiencing but you just know you are not coping or you may be experiencing a number of issues. I can talk to you initially on the telephone to get a sense of what is going on for you. There is no pressure and the call will be confidential.
