About me

Taking the step to "reach out" for support from a professional counsellor is a positive step forward and a sign of inner strength, although at this initial stage it may not feel like it at this time.

I am a warm, caring person and practitioner offering counselling and psychotherapy to adults and young people. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and although my qualifications and professional body membership are vital "rubber stamps" of approval, it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship between you as my client and myself as a therapist that is at the heart of my practice.

My private practice is run from my therapy room based from my home, where I offer a relaxed, informal space where you will be listened to without judgment and in confidence. Whatever the difficulties you are experiencing we can explore together, at your pace, building up trust, a crucial component for deepening our relationship and necessary for the healing process, growth and towards change. As an Integrative Practitioner I will offer varying techniques and ways of expressing and exploring feelings that will be suited to you, this approach aims to help you make sense of your present experience and enable you to move forward in a safe and supportive way.

Training, qualifications & experience

My professional background has developed from over 17 years of working therapeutically with children and young people in the care system, this has afforded me a great understanding to the impact of attachment, early life trauma and childhood issues, particular around separation and loss, to how our early life experiences can impact into adulthood and our current relationships. This work led me into pursuing my training and qualification in Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy in Nottingham, where I completed three years of training alongside clinical practice in a general counselling service, supporting clients affected by addictions, anxiety, bereavement, trauma and much more. As well as private practice, I have worked in the voluntary sector offering counselling to support adults affected by domestic violence, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, sexual exploitation, anxiety, PTSD and other related mental health problems. I have also worked for a number of years as a children's practitioner at Open Minds, a local charitable counselling service offering support for adults, children from the age of 5 and families.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
