There are times in our lives where we face challenges which can leave us struggling, feeling lost and wondering how we got there. We try to cope but end up feeling anxious, stressed, tired and unhappy. We can become stuck, wanting things to change but just don’t know how and this can be a time when we seek counselling.
Helping you to a place of deeper understanding and self-acceptance
How I work:
I provide a warm and safe environment for you to openly explore your thoughts and feelings without the fear of being judged. The counsellor-client relationship is an integral part of the therapy and you will be valued, encouraged and supported throughout our sessions together.
To help understand why you cope with things in a particular way and why you feel and react the way you do, part of our work will involve exploring your past, the patterns of behaviour formed over the course of your life and how this may be affecting your life in the present day.
Some of our work will also include looking at the different relationships in your life, identifying the part they are playing and your role within them.
Exploring this will give you a deeper understanding of yourself allowing you to discover other options available to you, enabling you to make changes and move forward.
I am an integrative counsellor working mainly from a psychodynamic approach but also incorporating the concepts from other approaches such as humanistic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in our work together. These approaches can all complement each other and I will always work in your best interest.
I have considerable experience of working with anxiety, relationship issues, stress related issues, perfectionism, family issues, lack of confidence and low self-esteem. I also have significant experience working with those who have suffered a bereavement, helping them through one of the most difficult times of their life and was an accredited bereavement volunteer with the national charity Cruse for a number of years.
