About me

I am passionate for supporting children going through difficult times and seeing them grow as individuals through the gentle and safe contained process of non-directive play therapy.

I offer one-to-one play therapy sessions of 50 minutes duration for children aged 5-11. I run children group play therapy sessions dealing with many issues, e.g. anger, self-esteem, coping with stress. I also offer parent-child attachment play working with the parent(s)/carer(s) using play tools to help build better communication and bonds between parent and child.

I have been helping children for over 5 years now using non-directive therapy. By providing a safe and confidential space using toys and craft materials, which is a familiar medium for the child, can help the child work through past and current issues. A child will most likely find it hard to tell an adult in words what is upsetting them. By offering the child a selected collection of toys they can tap into their natural inner resources and heal through the power of play.

Available services for:

  • families
  • primary schools
  • social services
  • bereavement organisations
  • domestic violence
  • children’s centres

Depending on the referral reason and each individual case, it can be expected that the child will show:

  • Better communication
  • Self-regulation
  • Confidence
  • Problem finding solutions

Training, qualifications & experience

I began my counselling training in 2007 through the University of Nottingham and completed my BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling in 2010. By 2011 I began my Post Graduate training in Play Therapy and qualified in 2014.

After graduating I was offered the opportunity to work in a primary school in Nottingham providing child counselling, and later play therapy upon completing my Post Graduate Diploma. I have over 1,235 hours experience of supporting children aged 5-11 in one-to-one sessions using non-directive counselling and play therapy. I also have undertaken over 3,247 sessions supporting children at a drop-in service which I facilitated in school.

8 years a go I stumbled across a book called ‘Dibs in Search of Self’ by Virginia M. Axline; an inspiring true story about a boy who would not talk or play and was oblivious to others. I was hooked and intrigued by the end of the first page as the play therapist and author of this book took me on a journey of the child’s therapeutic process and their growing relationship with others. I had no idea anything like this (play therapy) existed for children. I had to know more and I did - I had a placement for my second and third year training as a counsellor working with children in a school. As they say, the rest is history. It was the best decision I ever made, because I have seen over and over the ability for a child to grow and play out their worries alongside a trained professional in a very unique setting.

I am passionate for supporting children and seeing an individual develop their inner strengths. I am honoured that so many children let me travel by their side as they go on their own therapeutic journey. I specialised further in my training after working as a counsellor with children, seeing child after child becoming more confident and finding their way through play in a safe environment. I also enjoy checking-in with parents and hearing their observations of their child, as they watched their child transforming and growing. I am always ready and happy to help parents with any suggestions if needed.

I take great pride in my work and have dedicated time and energy into making sure that I deliver the best standard of care to children and their families.I have undergone 5 years of training and 2 of those were dedicated fully to supporting children therapeutically. Please be assured that I am a trained and qualified counsellor and play therapist. Would you send your child to see an unqualified Doctor set up in practice with only one or two days training on a workshop? I persist in further developing my learning and to improve my practice by continuing my personal and professional development to keep me update.

Children face all sorts of difficulties that can be hard, difficult and painful for a parent to cope with, often leaving the parent/s feeling drained and not sure on what action to take. Taking action is taking a step forward to helping relieving some of that stress and improving the current situation you are faced with. If you have noticed your child:

  • Withdrawing/quiet

  • Upset more often than usual

  • Regressing

  • Acting out more often than usual

  • Losing confidence

  • Anxious

It may help to seek support.  If there is anything I can help you with, please feel free to contact me for an assessment to talk about your concerns. I will help you and your child as best as I can.
