About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor offering a confidential Counselling Service, run in a peaceful, private environment, with free parking. I am BUPA and EAP registered. As a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist I use both the Transactional Analysis and Person Centered approaches in my practice. This I feel offers my clients a wide range of strategies to enable them to cope better with what life throws at them. We all experience times when we feel sad, unsettled or unable to change habits we are unhappy with.  There are times when we don’t know which way to turn and are afraid to burden our closest friends or relatives. Counselling offers you a safe, friendly environment to express any feelings, worries or concerns without fear of recriminations or judgement. Anyone can benefit from counselling, it can be useful when experiencing a crisis or a trauma or to deepen self-awareness. By talking to a professional counsellor, you can develop options for changing the way you relate to others and to yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have level 5 Diploma in Person Centered Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a People Practitioner Advanced Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling from TA Works in Oxford. I am also a Level 6 qualified clinical supervisor.

I have run my own private practice for the past 17 years and also worked as a volunteer counsellor at a local GP surgery. I undertake regular supervision and continued professional development to maintain high standards.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Testimonials

Before speaking to Lesley I was in a really bad place. I was struggling in my relationships with family, partners, with colleagues and couldn’t understand how to improve them and feel happier in myself. Only way I can describe it was like Lesley helped me have an epiphany - there’s 2 people in a relationship and I also played a part in why they weren’t succeeding. My awareness of the transactions I was having all of a sudden became apparent and the changes we worked through have given me a different perspective on life. Yes, I have a long way to go and relationships will never be perfect, but I now know the tools to help me rationalise and ultimately protect my happiness. My advice to anyone - speak to Lesley, it’ll be the best thing you do!  SJ 2022

Lesley Snowdon was recommended to me by Bupa after I was identified has having anxiety and depression. I was not expecting the sessions to have any impact, and to be honest I was a little sceptical. After meeting Lesley my concerns were quickly put at ease because of her ability to balance her professional training and in-depth experience with a warm and honest personality. Lesley was key in getting my life back on track, and I would always recommend her for anyone currently suffering emotionally. BD 2022

My work with Lesley has changed my life in many positive ways. The process has enabled me to understand myself better and helped me develop strategies to manage my emotions. Her calming energy is reassuring and containing. I can’t express how valuable it has been investing in my mental health.  KK 2022

I would highly recommend Leslie, she put me at ease & made me feel comfortable.   Very friendly & have suggested to friends & family should they ever need to speak to someone then this is the place to go. 10/10 - plus the coffee is good too. CR 2022

I went to see Lesley after a friend had recommended her to me following me suffering with infertility for a few years. At first, I was hesitant as I had never gone to therapy before, however I was instantly made to feel at ease and felt it was a safe space to speak openly. I ended up discovering things about myself and my values that really helped me navigate what was a really challenging time, and still help me in day-to-day life. Lesley has since supported me through multiple rounds of IVF, and other life events, with kindness and openness but through allowing to view things from different perspectives. Ultimately, I feel like working with Lesley has enabled me to feel more resilient and positive, I cannot thank her enough for her support and would highly recommend her.  FA 2022
