Training, qualifications & experience
What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps us to understand the links between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
The therapist and patient work together to identify the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs that are associated with particular problems and to discover if there are alternative, perhaps more helpful ways of seeing things which enable them to feel better.
With the support of the therapist, patients are encouraged to try out new ways of dealing with problems and to evaluate what works best for them.
The CBT approach is easily learned and patients are encouraged to use it in their own way.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. (EMDR.com)
