About me

Lesley Butlin Counselling & Psychotherapy Services:

Before I list my experience and professional qualifications I want to recognise how difficult it is to pick a Therapist from this list of well qualified professionals. I always suggest that new clients, arrange to see me for a one off appointment, as what really makes the difference to how you feel, is if you are comfortable and happy with me and what I offer in the therapeutic relationship.

I am a qualified & registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist, to work with adults, young people and their families.

For over 30 years I have been working in the field of mental health, helping people feel more confident and more able to face the difficulties that life throws at us all.

I have trained in trauma work, not just the obvious big T trauma's of, assault, fires and car accidents. I also work effectively with small t trauma, those life long issues of being bullied, not feeling good enough or phobias of blood or dogs for example.

As an experienced psychotherapist I am able to work with any issues that affect your emotional well being and no issue is too small if it prevents you living the life you want to live.

I am happy to work online via zoom or in person in my office in NG24.

The list below identifies the breadth of problems I have experienced of working with, however this is not exhaustive.

  • anxiety
  • panic attacks
  • sadness
  • low self-esteem
  • lack of assertiveness
  • general unhappiness
  • depression
  • emotional eating issues of all descriptions
  • stress related difficulties
  • bereavement problems
  • relationship difficulties
  • bullying
  • trauma

Training, qualifications & experience

Therapy: I am a qualified Counsellor and a United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered Psychotherapist for Adults, Children and Young People and have run a successful private counselling and psychotherapy practice since 1995.

I spent 18 years working as a Mental Health Nurse in the NHS with Adults, Families and Young People.

I am an Accredited EMDR Psychotherapist having completed my accreditation in 2022..

http://emdrassociation.org.uk/whatis-emdr/.

Currently EMDR is the therapy of choice for treating trauma following traffic accidents / childhood trauma / phobias and PTSD. If you are holding emotions form a divorce, separation, bereavement and notice those feelings become overwhelming, you may be having a trauma response. EMDR is now available online or in person with myself, contact me to discuss if you would benefit from EMDR.

Supervision: To continue my personal development in 2015 I gained a MSc in Professional Supervision. I currently have space for supervisee's and can provide specialist supervsion for any practitioner working with Adults, Young People or Children in any setting.

I have extensive experience of therapeutic work with children, young people and those families affected by disordered eating if you require specialist supervision in these areas.

I am happy to supervise both trainee counsellors and qualified counsellors, therapists, nurses, social workers, vicars, healthcare workers or volunteers working within the mental health field.

I currently offer individual and group supervision.

If you are want to make the first step please contact me to discuss your therapeutic or supervisory needs.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

In the last 2 years I have been helping sports professionals; footballers and runners to reach their potential through Mindset Coaching.I love helping people, focus forward, upwards and outwards and achieve their goals.

I am passionate about helping coaches and trainers in the fitness industry that admit their lack of awareness around their clients inner world / psychological development impacts on their business. Perhaps you know the food and gym industry very well, but would like to understand how a deep connection with the person opposite you can also be a catalyst for your own journey of confidence and impact.

For the last 10 years I have run psychological weight management courses and have expertise and experience of helping people who can not simply eat less and move more.

If you are a business looking at ways to support your staff team and want us to deliver courses focussing on psychological weight loss, conflict resolution, time management / improving communication / stress management / mindfulness or how to be a healthier you, please contact me today on 07554020227.

Further information

When you are choosing a professional to help you, at probably a difficult time it can be confusing with all the different types of therapy on offer. Do I need a counsellor, a psychotherapist or a coach?

I personally believe that my background and professional qualifications underpin the help I can give you however it is the relationship between you and myself that will help you to heal.

Therefore I usually suggest starting with a 20 minute complimentary session, to meet, discuss what you want from therapy at this time and decide if we want to work together.

If this is something you would like to arrange please email me - mail@lesleybutlin.co.uk or call 07554020227 today.
