I also have a specialist interest in attachment issues, depression and anxiety. I use Lifespan Integration Therapy to help 'heal' attachment issues, trauma & grief. I work with clients, through family issues, anxiety, low self esteem and eating disorders. I work with adults and children and use creative approaches where applicable. I am open, honest and use humour.
I am an Accredited Counsellor, Supervisor and trainer. I am experienced in helping people through all types of relationship issues, including divorce, separation, recovering from an affair and abusive relationships. I also have experience of working with phobias, anxiety, stress, loss of direction and generalised anxiety. I work with people who have panic attacks, Seasonal affective disorder and generalised anxiety. You know you do not feel great but are not sure why.
I counsel teenagers at 2 local high schools, and really enjoy this work. It involves looking at early signs of distress and working with the young people to gain skills in coping and communication. Early intervention is important, teenage years can be traumatic and brings with it massive pressures, such as those induced by exams, friendships, issues with the internet, and bullying. Self esteem and body image is a large part of teen development. I run courses on coping skills development and anger management, as well as dealing with these issues in a 1:1 manner.
I work with victims of mental, physical and sexual abuse. My work usually involves family issues in many presentations.I provide prenuptial counselling as a means of investing in the future for any couple. I am an ex Police officer, so have a first hand knowledge of the issues this demanding type of work presents.
Counselling is about finding out about yourself, your past and clarifying what you want your future to look like. My aim is to help you in this process.
My approach will not be for everyone, and that is okay! I believe that the most important part of counselling is the relationship between counsellor and yourself. It is a big step, but counselling works!
Supervision is an ethical requirement but I also feel that it is an essential part of personal growth. It allows the therapist the space to reflect, review and seek new ways forward, all of which help the client get a better service. Supervision is about feeling safe, supported and challenged to always do your best. It should be a creative space that is energising and stimulating.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
I specialise in attachment issues and supporting parents. I counsel people through family issues, stress, loss of direction and low self esteem. I help people cope with eating disorders and issues of general anxiety. I cover relationship issues, anxiety, depression, SAD, family issues, OCD, separation and divorce. I have an interest in helping build self esteem in women and look at improving self confidence and self belief.
I look at innovative ways of managing stress, rather than stress managing you, at home or at work. I work with people who self harm.
I counsel teens through exam stress, eating disorders, anger issues and relational difficulties.
I believe that counselling works! Whether it is a problem with relationships, divorce, separation, or putting the marriage/partnership back together, there is a way forward. Abuse and low self esteem are barriers to moving forward, but again, they can be worked with and replaced with more positive internal messages.
I have first hand experience of Police work and the possible issues it can present.
My experience as a manager has enabled me to always see the larger picture. I use all my lifeskills to help get the best out of everyone. Supervision should be more than a monthly chore, it should be stimulating, creative and lead to growth. The client is always at the centre of all supervision, but the health and well being of the therapist is essential to the counselling process.
I encourage you to arrange a telephone conversation or skype call, to discuss your issues or concerns. If you feel that you want to meet me, then we will arrange a suitable time.
