About me

Hi.  Are you looking to find someone to talk to who isn't a friend or family member?  Are you anxious or depressed?  Do you have a problem with a relationship? Have you lost someone close to you or are you struggling with a traumatic event. If so, maybe I can help.

I offer a caring, respectful, sensitive and non-judgemental counselling service that can help you through a difficult period of your life.  Counselling offers the chance to talk things through, in confidence, so that with support you can work out the best way forward for you.

I have many years of experience of supporting individuals and couples with anxiety and depression, trauma, relationship issues, work related stress and burnout, bereavement, spirituality, sexuality/gender and self/identity issues.

Each client I work with is unique and as such counselling is tailored to individual need.  Some clients will need only one or two sessions to help whereas others may prefer to work over a longer time frame.

How do we start?
You can make contact via phone or email and I will get back to you to discuss your counselling needs.  This gives you the opportunity to consider whether we can work together. It is important for you to feel comfortable with me and that you have the space you need in order to talk through the concerns that are distressing you.

The first session is also used to talk together about what you want to achieve from counselling and how best we can work towards this.

Your Counselling Sessions
Counselling sessions last for one hour. This is your time to discuss what is on your mind. As an integrative counsellor, (meaning I work with a variety of approaches based on your need), while I do not give advice or tell you what to do, I may suggest exercises, activities or resources to help you find the right way forward for you.

We all have busy lives these days, and I understand that it is not always practical or easy to make time to travel to my counselling room.  Therefore after the initial session, and if it is felt to be appropriate I can offer counselling via Zoom, Facetime or phone.

As your counsellor, I will regularly review your needs with you so that we can jointly assess progress and what further action, if any, may be needed.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
