With experience working both in the NHS and independently, Dr Laura Keyes offers an independent practice, working with individuals in Bedford and across Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties. She works with people who refer themselves and via rehabilitation services, insurance companies and solicitors.
She prides herself on providing a friendly, approachable and professional service; helping people to improve their mental wellbeing through psychological therapy. She has also undergone further training in order to offer more specialist support.

Support for a range of difficulties including anxiety disorders such as Generalised anxiety; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; Trauma; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Health anxiety; Specific phobias; Depression; Insomnia; Chronic pain; Managing long term health conditions such as CFS & MS; Adjustment to and managing disability; Difficulties associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder; Difficulties associated with ADHD; Difficulties associated with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injury and traumatic brain injury; Separation anxiety, sleep difficulties and behavioural difficulties in children.
When working with people therapeutically Dr Keyes uses the approach that best fits for the person and their difficulties. This can be using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Compassion Focused Therapy. She also offers Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused CBT. Some people are clear from the beginning what treatment they would like, others prefer to be guided. Dr Keyes always consider what evidence there is for the approach being used and how effective it is likely to be for the person. Treatment options will always be discussed with you and the pros and cons of these, so you can make an informed decision.

Dr Laura Keyes is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and has reached the Associate Fellow status AFBPsS. She is registered with the Health Care Professions Council and Information Commissioner's Office. She holds public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Independent practice experience:
Providing independent therapy services as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist for children and adults in Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties. Offering more specialist assessment services through Understanding Minds (www.understandingminds.org.uk).

Dr Keyes is registered with all the main insurance providers and can give provider numbers as necessary; should you wish to see her through your insurance company please contact your insurance company first to check your level of cover and the referral procedure, as confirmation of this is needed before meeting.
Recovering from Trauma:
Dr Keyes area of specialist interest is helping people recover from traumatic events. She uses EMDR and/or a Trauma Focused CBT approach, as well as Compassion Focused approaches to help people recover from both one off traumas, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and longer term/repeated traumas.
Linked to this, her other special interest is working with people who struggle with anxiety (such as generalised anxiety, social anxiety, and specific phobias). She uses Behavioural and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help people learn to better manage feeings of anxiety, to challenge their ways of thinking, and to tackle avoidance of feared situations.
Supporting difficulties associated with ADHD, learning, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders:
Her other specialist area is working with people who have mental health difficulties alongside other conditions, such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, or ADHD. This typically includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for social anxiety and depression, where therapy is adapted to take into the account the nature of the person's difficulties and move at their own pace. If meeting in preson is difficult alternative arrangements can be arranged, such as communicating via Skype/email/letter writing.
Diagnostic assessments for ASD, ADHD and Learning Disabilities & Difficulties:
As part of the company 'Understanding Minds' Dr Keyes provides comprehensive diagnostic assessments for Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disabilities and learning difficulties (dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia).
