About me

COVID-19 update: We are able to offer some face-to-face sessions where required. Your therapist will discuss this with you. All seating has been re-arranged to ensure at least 2m distance between you and your therapist.

Many of us, for different reasons, find parts of our lives very difficult; sometimes overwhelming, and it takes immense courage to work at understanding the things that are unsettling us. Past experiences can mould the people we become and by thinking together we can help discover why patterns of behaviour exist and encourage new patterns for the future; the hope for lasting change.

My belief in an individual's ability to explore and evolve their understanding of themselves and their situation underpins my work. I 'walk with' those in distress and assist in helping manage and explore difficulties in an appropriately contained and supportive, yet challenging environment.

Developing a relationship of shared trust and respect is therefore essential for effective counselling, so it is important that there is a comfortable connection between client and therapist. I provide a confidential place, free from judgement, for you to talk with someone about your concerns. I value each person's individuality and honour difference, diversity and inclusive practice within my work.

I work with individuals and couples (either brief or longer-term), providing the space for us to think together about the things that are troubling you. I use a number approaches within my work which enables me to tailor the therapy to your individual needs.

My work covers attachment difficulties, anxiety, anger management, trauma, traumatic loss, depression, postnatal depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, bereavement, stress, relationship issues (including affairs, divorce & separation), family dynamics, identity, work related issues, low self-esteem, eating disorders, loss, and coping with feeling different to others. I have particular interest  in areas of difference and diversity, and the impact of early separation on adult relationships.

I am a Senior Accredited Supervisor and offer clinical supervision to trainee, newly qualified and experienced counsellors.

If, for any reason, I am unable to meet with you, I am happy to refer you to one of my associates within my practice.

Counselling/Psychotherapy for Trainees
Undertaking counselling and psychotherapy training inevitably evokes underlying issues and I offer the space to work through these difficulties. The self-knowledge gained through personal therapy can provide valuable professional, academic and personal benefits. I am able to offer a reduction in fees for trainees - please ask for details.

Student Counselling Service
Most universities and colleges in Leicester and Leicestershire have their own student counselling services, but some students prefer to be seen independently of their place of study. Also, it may not be possible for you to be seen promptly or have the amount of sessions you need on campus. We tailor your therapy to fit you as an individual, whilst recognising that many students face difficulties with being away from home for the first time, transitions, loss, living in shared accommodation, exam stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, confidence, anger management, family conflicts, exploring sexuality, identity, and new relationships.

Therapy Room for Hire/Becoming an Associate
Versatile ground floor, first and second floor therapy rooms (accessibility info: door widths 75 and 69 cm, WC 2nd floor) are available to use for ad hoc (Associates only), regular single sessions, half-day or full day blocks. The rooms are furnished suitable for use with individual clients (adults and young people), couples, family/systemic therapy, group supervision, group training, personal development groups, and mentoring/coaching. Our consulting rooms are situated in a discreet, professional location of the city centre (LE1, near Regent Road) so is easily accessible by public transport; there is also street parking nearby (£1 per 2 hrs/free after 6 p.m.). Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
