Hello. I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor with 30 years experience. In my private practice I work short and long term with clients. I have done many different trainings and so my way of working is ' Integrative'. I tend to work with what feels would be most appropriate and helpful for that person and the issues they have bought. I hope to enable my clients towards healing, resolution and empowerment - and to be more liking and accepting of themselves. To take their present and future into their own hands and not be led by the past.
What Counselling Can Offer:
Counselling can offer us the space to express whatever is troubling us. It may be things we have kept in a long time and is having a detrimental effect on our well being. It gives a safe place to be heard and listened to with empathy and without judgement. It can also help us look at patterns and habits that are self defeating and causing us unhappiness. There is the opportunity to let go off what's unhelpful to us and to learn and develop new ways of supporting ourselves that are constructive and healthy.
I often say to clients that there are a range of things that will happen to us in our lives [tragic, joyful, difficult, sad, disturbing etc] - and it is in HOW we respond to these events that make a difference to how we feel about ourselves. We often react habitually and can end up perpetuating feelings / situations that are not helpful and can make us feel bad. In counselling there is a chance to gain an awareness about these automatic patterns and to begin to make choices of HOW we respond which could lead to enhancing our wellbeing. What drew me to become a therapist was my own experience in therapy. I found it life changing and affirming and that I could start to make choices that enriched my life.
I see my role as a counsellor as being an enabler, at helping you help yourself - for you to become the author of your life. It is a privilege and profound experience to see this happen with people I work with and have worked with.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
When working with anxiety and depression I will look at helpful ways of self support.
There will be some focus on what is at the root of these feelings and it may be that there are submerged and subdued feelings that have never been expressed and so can cause a blockage/ stuckness in how we deal with life and ourselves. This can then set up a self defeating pattern.
I have done some in depth work on addiction, looking at addictions in the broader spectrum. The smaller addictive tendencies that can become self destructive and that can lead to bigger addictions. I have also done focused work on trauma and the short and long term effect it can have on us.
I have worked with couples for a long time and find my 'Integrated model' very helpful in this work.
I am interested in 'Neurology' and work in a' Holistic' and 'Integrative' way joining up our neurology with our psychology. I work very much as an 'Integrative' therapist on assessing what would seem the most helpful way of working for that person at any particular time.
I am a Supervisor and my style is 'Integrative' - endeavouring to create a climate of openness, learning and collaboration.
My fee is between £40-£55 and £60 for couples
I offer concessions.
I charge £25 for the Initial session. This is a session where you can tell me what you are wanting and what is happening for you. It gives you the chance to meet with me and to see if it would suit you to come to me for counselling. It also gives me the opportunity to see if I can be of help to you.
