Dr Kyriaki (Kyra) Monastiropoulou BSC. (Hons), DCounsPsy, CPsychol, AFBPsS
45 Central Street
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who has been working in the NHS and independent organisations since 2009.
I have offered individual and group therapy both short-term and long-term to children, adolescents, and working adults experiencing various psychological difficulties e.g. depression, anxiety, psychosis, interpersonal difficulties etc.
The areas I provide therapy are:
Emotional difficulties, behavioural problems & anger difficulties
Depression, anxiety and work stress
Emotional, physical, sexual abuse & neglect
Bereavement & loss
Low sense of self-worth and self-esteem
High levels of shame and self-criticism.
Over the years and various training, I learnt to work in an integrative and very relational way and my approach is individually tailored to help you make sense of your experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
I have also developed an interest in the body-mind relationship, and how our psychological and emotional states greatly influence the onset and passage of illness, as well as out ability to heal. Hence during the therapeutic sessions will try to understand the connection between mind and body and how it is manifested.
I know that it is not easy to choose a therapist, let alone the ‘right’ therapist but if you think it’s worth trying then please do not hesitate to call me or email me.
I will ask you to have a brief telephone discussion with me so I can have a better understanding of what difficulties you are experiencing. Alternatively we can always book an initial consultation.
During the initial consultation, which lasts up to 80 minutes, you will have the opportunity to talk about yourself and your experiences. You will also have the opportunity to ask me about how I practise and what service I offer.
Towards the end of the session, I will discuss with you my thoughts about therapy and we can make a decision together regarding the appropriateness of therapy. If we agree to work together, then regular ongoing sessions last 50 minutes.
I speak both English and Greek and therefore I am happy to provide therapy in both languages.
