Dr Kornilia Givissi, Counselling Psychologist (HCPC Reg, DCounsPsy)
I work with clients with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, mood swings, self-harm, medically unexplained aches and pains, relational and interpersonal problems and life transition. I offer both medium and long term therapy.
My training in Psychology means that I can draw from a number of different modalities, such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and humanistic, and offer an integrative approach to my clients.
I will tailor my approach to each client and offer an individualised therapeutic experience.
I am particularly interested in language, the words we use to describe emotion or to talk to ourselves, as well as the bodily experience of emotion.
If you are interested in therapy, send me an email or give me a call. If I am unable to answer, please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I aim to respond within 24 hours.
The first appointment will be a consultation, to discuss your needs and how I can best help you. Following from that, we can decide together whether we continue or explore other options for you.
I usually work in an open ended way (meaning there is not a predefined number of sessions) with once weekly appointments, however if you have other preferences we can discuss them.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are scheduled at the same time and day every week. This means that when we work together, you will have a slot reserved. I offer lunchtime, afternoon and evening slots on Mondays.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Greece and as a Counselling Psychologist in the UK.
I have extensive experience working with a variety of clients in diverse settings, such as addiction treatment services, local GP practices, private psychiatric units, the NHS and the charity sector.
I am the Head of Psychological Therapies at Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, one of the largest local Mind associations, managing a large team of counsellors and psychotherapists.
Outside of my work at Mind, I practice privately and I am interested in research, particularly in areas regarding body image, sense of self, embodiment and self harm. My latest study was focused on the experience of marks and scars as a result of self-harm.
