Kirsty Austin MBACP (Accred)
At times of difficulty to feel heard and understood with empathy and acceptance can be very healing. As an Accredited Integrative Counsellor I aim to provide a warm, accepting environment that is confidential and safe. By developing a supportive, non-judgmental relationship I aim to facilitate self understanding, new insights and to help individuals find new ways of coping.
Long & short Term Counselling
Over the last 6 years I have gained extensive experience working with a variety of issues, working short & long term. Working short term with Depression & Anxiety for an NHS IAPT Service and working longer term with clients within my Private Practice and a community counselling charities. I work with Adults of all ages and adolescents, with some experience working with children in primary schools using play therapy.
The Integrative approach focuses on the therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. Developing a supportive non judgmental relationship so you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feeling being understood with empathy is very important. As we are all individual and unique I tailor my professional skills to the client’s needs. Drawing on approaches such as: Humanistic, CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, TFT Tapping, Transactional Analysis (TA) Mindfullness & Creative Techniques.
Thought Field Therapy TFT Tapping
This tapping technique works well with many areas of difficulty including: Anxiety, phobias, OCD, anger, fear, trauma, depression, addictions, self esteem and unhelpful dysfunctional thoughts & beliefs.
What can you expect?
While thinking about the area of difficulty, I will ask you to rate how you are feeling on a scale 0 - 10,
then we will tap together on ourselves on areas of the face, upper body and hands. Once the Algorithm (tapping sequence) is complete, I will ask you to get back into the 'thought' and rate it once more. This is a very quick progress that can 'delete' difficult feelings of fear/anxiety/sadness for example, that are attached to a memory, experience or belief.
I consider myself a spiritual person, I practice meditation & Mindfulness for well-being and enjoy Art, yoga, walking, travel and extending my knowledge of counselling theories & psychology.
I attend regular Continuous Professional Development courses, I am currently training to counsel couples, I am a Reiki Practitioner and hope to train in Hypnotherapy in the near future.
