Hello my name is Kim.
I offer professional counselling to adults, young people and children in a comfortable, safe, confidential and supportive environment where you can be heard and understood without judgement. It is important to me that you feel at ease while exploring any issues that are troubling you.
We all need a little help at times and it is important that you find a therapist that you are relaxed and comfortable with. I understand how worrying seeking counselling can be – my aim is to reassure you and provide you with an opportunity for healthy change. I work with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, family and relationship issues and many other areas of counselling (listed below) which may be current or past unresolved problems.
I provide a trusting therapeutic relationship, giving opportunity to explore difficulties.
With insight in to your situation, thoughts, feelings and behaviours you are able to gain deeper understanding, clarity, acceptance and strategies for informed choices and change.
I work in private practice, Primary and Secondary Schools throughout Sefton as well as working for a large voluntary organisation offering short and long term counselling for adults, young people and children.
I work with trainee counselling students, who are on placement, as their mentor. I also facilitate student counsellors personal development.
Counselling for Adults
A confidential, trusting and caring therapeutic relationship in a safe environment makes it possible for you to talk freely and privately about your problems. This might involve some searching and reflection. Having a deeper sense of the issues that are troubling you and seeing things more clearly helps you work towards self directed goals and develop solutions.
Counselling for young people
For most young people, their social system involves peer relationships and it maybe that they find it difficult to talk to the people around them or disclose their problems to their families. I work with young people, exploring their individual difficulties.
These may involve bullying, behavioural problems, self harm, isolation, bereavement, emotional difficulties or relationships issues.
Counselling for young people enables them to explore how they are feeling in a separate confidential space away from home, school and their peers.
Counselling for Children
Children find it difficult to understand and process painful feelings which may lead to challenging behaviour. They also need an understanding counsellor who endeavours to envisage the child’s world and responds to the child therapeutically.
Counselling with children entails working with age appropriate media giving opportunity for the child to explore feelings and thoughts through symbolic play, enabling the child to cope better with his/her emotions, finding resilience and resolve.
In order for me to work in the best interest of my clients I adhere to the principles of the professional body BCAP - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I engage with regular clinical supervision to check my levels of effectiveness and good practice. I continually update my training and I am covered by all the relevant insurances in accordance with the BACP
I also offer Rewind Trauma Therapy IARTT (A technique for clients experiencing PTSD, (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and who are struggling with Involuntary / Intrusive thoughts) Flashbacks and Anxiety.
I find my work extremely rewarding and I sincerely hope we can work together.
