About me

I first discovered the world of counselling and psychotherapy through my mother who trained to be a counsellor during a very difficult time in her own life. Sadly she passed away when I was still young and this left me feeling adrift for many years as I tried to find a way past the hurt and loss. I made my way through that time thanks to the kind support of many people who listened to me and gave me the space I needed to try and find my own path and to mend in the way I wanted to.

After a long time of soul searching I decided what I wanted to do with my life was to try and help other people the same way I had. I strongly believe that with space, time, empathy and someone who is willing to truly listen to us we can grow as people and find ways to heal. I wanted to do this as myself and not as some cold and distant expert or to treat people as a product to be processed as quickly as possible. Because of this belief I found myself once again heading to the world of counselling that my mother and introduced me to, this time to find my way of giving it.

In 2011 I became a fully qualified counsellor with a Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling from Bucks New University. Since then I have continued to practice in Windsor with an agency that works with a large variety of clients of all ages and backgrounds. Now I am also running my own private practice in High Wycombe which is open to all.

I am a person centred counsellor though I have taken on additional learning in areas such a focusing which looks at the body's felt sense and brief solution focused counselling which is working on issues in a time limited way. I have had additional experience and training on working with children and young people as well as on specialist topics such as self-harm and depression.

Through my years of counselling and psychotherapy practise I have worked with depression, anger management, drug and alcohol addiction, abuse, anxiety, bereavement, masculinity, self-harm, trauma, stress, sexuality, relationship issues and much more.

If we decide to work together we will negotiate a fee which must be paid at the start or end of each session. At present the standard fee is £50 for 1 hour. There can be some negotiation on these amounts for young people and for those whose financial circumstances would preclude them from taking up counselling. You can pay either by cash or with a cheque made out to Kieran O'Connor. I do review my fees every year but for clients I already see I will not increase my fees for one calendar year from our first session.
