Karen Stowe, Individual & Couples Counselling, Coaching & Mentoring
I am an integrative counsellor working with individuals and couples, and I also offer work- related coaching and mentoring. I have an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Minster Centre, London. An integrative approach means I recognise the importance of the whole person, valuing an awareness of body, feelings, intellect and spirit. I offer a caring, confidential and non-judgemental space, in which, together, we can explore the emotional difficulties and issues you are facing in your life.
Fundamental to my approach is the belief that we all have the potential to continue to change and develop throughout our lives and that we can find greater fulfilment and freedom through self-awareness and self-responsibility.
I aim to help you:
- Gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships
- Face life's challenges and difficulties with more resilience
- Improve your sense of personal power and ability to make appropriate choices
- Recognise old patterns of behaviour that are no longer useful
- Become more aware of, and learn to trust your own intuition and experience
Some of the issues I help people with include:
- Relationship problems
- Loss of meaning or direction in life
- Feeling helpless, frustrated or angry
- Life-changing events like illness, motherhood, retirement and bereavement
- Depression, anxiety, panic attacks and OCD
- Unresolved childhood experiences
- Eating disorders
All relationships are tested at times, and this is one of the most common reasons people seek counselling. I offer a calm, neutral and confidential space in which you can both be supported in working through your relationship difficulties, allowing each of you to safely air grievances, express difficult feelings, and have an opportunity to be heard and understood by your partner.
I can help you to identify underlying issues that may have gone unnoticed or unexpressed, improve your communication with each other, and facilitate greater understanding between you so that you can get your relationship back on track.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Minster Centre, London, and have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (BACP accredited) and a MA and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, accredited by the UKCP and validated by Middlesex University.
I work with individuals and couples.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their code of conduct. I am also a member of UKCP.
I have trained and practised as a bereavement counsellor with CRUSE Bereavement Care, and for three years worked for a counselling charity, as a counsellor for young people aged 11 to 18 years.
I regularly attend training workshops and courses, and am particularly interested in the value of mindfulness techniques in counselling, and insights from current research in neurobiology. I am currently undertaking a further Diploma specialising in Couples work at Re-Vision, London.
I have an honours degree from Kings College, Cambridge University in Social Anthropology. Before training as a counsellor I worked as a TV director in drama and documentaries. I have also taught extensively in the fields of drama training and TV production.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am also an experienced coach for people with work- related issues and challenges, and enjoy supporting and mentoring clients to develop their potential and achieve their best.
My charges are:
Individuals: £50 for a fifty minute session
Couples: £60 for an hour session. Longer sessions of 75 minutes are also available if preferred, at £75.
Our work can be short term or longer term, depending on your needs and what you are hoping to achieve. Short term work usually focusses on a specific issue, while longer term work allows an opportunity to explore issues in greater depth, looking at how the past, including childhod experiences and relationships with parents and other important people, are influencing you in the present. This process can enable you to re-connect to parts of yourself that have been lost or denied and can lead to a profound sense of being more truly yourself.
The first session is an opportunity to explore your reasons for coming to counselling and to assess whether we feel we are suited to working together. If you decided you would like to continue, then we will arrange to meet once a week at a set time.
If you would like to arrange an initial session or find out more, please email me or call me on 07810 750785. If I am unable to take your call, do leave a message with a convenient time to call back and I will get in touch as soon as I can.
