About me

I am an Accredited Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My journey in counselling/psychotherapy began in 2011, through my experience I have worked in a variety of settings from voluntary placements, GP surgeries and charity organisations.

I am frequently asked what therapy is; particularly when a new client is about to embark on an unknown journey for the first time.  I like to say this journey is all about you, giving yourself the time to get to know you better.  Counselling is certainly a journey of the self and how we relate to others.  I like to think the stigma around emotional support services has reduced from some years ago.  We often reflect on our physical pain and rush to the GP for support but what about our mental and emotional pain?  I don’t see why this should be any different as both can be quite disabling in there own way.

The purpose of my therapy work is to create a therapeutic working alliance which provides an emphatic, open, honest and non-judgmental environment. The combination of these elements I hope will enable the client to explore their feelings and emotions in a safe and confidential environment.

The goals and objectives of the therapy I provide is to gain exploration through a talking therapy by increasing your self-awareness. The aim is to facilitate you in helping you to help yourself in a difficult situation, as sometimes life can throw certain obstacles in our path. This, I hope will support you to reach your greatest potential by fulfilling your aspiration in becoming a better example of yourself.

I apply an integrative theoretical approach in my therapy work, encompassing an amalgamation of the theoretical background and skills of the main counselling modalities; Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural therapy.

In addition, I can provide an Islamic Counselling approach; the theoretical approaches are applied to suit the best needs of the client.

I have experience in working in general practice, charity organisation's within an islamic, asian and intercultural setting. Therefore, I have the experience, knowledge and background of culturally sensitive issues which may often arise in the therapeutic setting.

I only hope if you feel you need the support for your mental health and emotional difficulties, please ensure you listen to your heart and follow the right support for you.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As stated previously I can apply an Islamic approach in Counselling derived from the Qur'an and Sunnah - exploring one's individual journey of existence and their relationship with The Creator.  Islamic Counselling encompasses not only the physical, psychological and social aspect but also the often disregard to the spiritual element of an individual.
