Profile
I am an Existential Psychotherapist and BACP Accredited as well as being registered on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have been a practising psychotherapist since 2005.
I am aware that this may be the first time you are considering entering into counselling or psychotherapy and you may have a number of questions so please get in contact if there is a general question you may have about entering into therapy.
I work with individuals and couples offering psychotherapy on an open-ended basis or for a time limited period and I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. My practice is informed by psychoanalysis, phenomenology and existential theory.
As well as the locations listed above I am prepared to conduct a therapy session at a venue of your choice. I do not offer home visits but it may be that you have a favourite place to be when reflecting on life. Alternatively you may feel that it would be useful to have a therapy session in a particular location that has a memory or connection for you. For example, you may be grieving for a loved one who has died and a significant date may be coming up so you may like to have the therapy session in a place that is important for you at such a time. My approach to existential psychotherapy is to be along side you as you explore the difficulties that are present in your life and so hopefully find a way to become aware of new or different possibilities to the ones that may be present in your life.
It is important when considering therapy sessions in a particular location that the space is still confidential and you cannot be overheard by a member of the public who may be visiting the same space. Some suggestions for locations are as follows:
- In a particular park or public garden
- On a bench by the sea / water
- By a relatives graveside
- Walking along a favourite path
- Any significant place for you
- Locations / situations that may cause you difficulties

Further Information
How do I get started?
I offer an initial consultation of up to an hour and twenty minutes. This time provides an opportunity to say something about what brings you to therapy and to get a feel for what it will be like working with me as well as completing the initial contact requirements.
What happens after the initial contact?
If you decide to work with me we can decide if you want to start time limited or open ended therapy or if it is better to just see how it goes. For time limited work we will decide the term; for open ended we will work until it feels right to end.
How long and how often is each session?
Usually you attend once a week for therapy but I am open to seeing you more than once a week or to see you fortnightly. This is normally on a set day and time although I realise that for some people this can be difficult due to shift work. We will have time to talk about this in the first session.
Each session is around an hour. The way in which I work means I do not insist on just a 50 minute therapy hour which is the most popular session length. I realise that sometimes an hour can also be too long so I do not set a minimum time you should be present for either. If you choose to leave before the hour I will still charge the usual rate though.
