I founded Brighton Parent Infant Psychological Therapy (BrightPIP) in 2013 as I believe all parents, babies and young children deserve specialist support if they need it. Parenting is the most important job in the world yet often, especially in the early years, it can be intense and challenging. I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Care Professions Council (membership number PYL 25557) and chartered with the British Psychological Society, Division of Clinical Psychology and Perinatal Special Interest Group (membership number 093121).
BrightPIP offers intensive support to expectant parents and those with newborn babies up until the age of three. Families come to BrightPIP for a wide range of reasons. For example, thinking about the birth experience, pre or post-natal anxiety or depression, managing parenting and many other questions or concerns. Asking questions or having difficulties does not mean you are a bad parent.
Sessions at BrightPIP
Therapy takes the form of regular sessions with a parent infant clinician. The sessions are normally held at the Brighton Consulting Rooms. The sessions are for both mothers and fathers if both are involved in the baby’s care, and the baby is always present.
Sessions last up to an 1 hour, although the first session is sometimes longer. We will think about the feelings you each have, try to understand what your baby is communicating and explore ways of responding. Together we will review your progress at various intervals throughout the therapy. It often takes time to build a trusting relationship and to talk freely about the powerful feelings that becoming a parent can create.
