There is considerable evidence that talking therapy can and will make a difference to whatever you are struggling with, to that end I have worked hard to develop a range of skills. So that if you are struggling with anxiety, anger or addictions such as smoking, then I feel I can offer help. I am experienced at working with relationships, couples, separation and divorce.
I have trained in a range of techniques so that I can tailor my approach to your needs.
Psychodynamic counselling/psychotherapy – this is based on thinking about how our past, early experiences affect us now. This involves linking those experiences to our current concerns.
Person centered therapy – this is a form of talk-psychotherapy developed by psychologist Carl Rogers in the 1940s and 1950s. The goal of PCT is to provide clients with an opportunity to develop a sense of self where they can realise how their attitudes, feelings and behavior are being negatively affected.
Eye Movement Desensitising Reprocessing (EMDR) – This is a technique aimed at dealing with post traumatic stress disorder.
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States in the 1970s. Its creators claim a connection between the neurological processes (“neuro”), language (“linguistic”) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (“programming”) and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life.
Hypnotherapy – This is a technique, often associated with stopping smoking, but can help with a number of issues – often, to quote an old beer advert, reaching the parts of the Psyche that others do not.
Emotional Freedom Technique – This technique is from the work of Gary Craig and involves tapping on meridian energy points whilst focusing on a specific issue, often very effective.
I have also trained in Critical Incident de-briefing, Anger management, Couple (Relationship) therapy and Bereavement therapy.
In addition to this I undertake the supervision of other therapists in Talking Therapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Hypnotherapy. A College in Berkshire also engages me to teach students Hypnotherapy.
I worked for many years in the NHS for local GP surgeries throughout Bedfordshire, patients with a wide range of issues, were referred to me directly by their Doctor. I work in a delightful old building ion the centre of Bedford alongside 3 other experienced therapists.
I am of course fully and comprehensively insured and have active membership with a number of related organisations and am required to strictly follow their ‘code of ethics’. They are: UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy), AMT (Association for Meridian Energy Therapies) and APHP(Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy). I am accredited with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and follow their specific code of ethics and am happy to provide any client with a copy of this code on request.
I am available for appointments from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM (my last appointment) Monday to Friday.
Finally and importantly, my work with you is entirely confidential.
My philosophy is to help you to achieve the best outcome possible so that you can lead the life you want with confidence, whilst being free of fear and anxiety. I aim to achieve this outcome with clients in the shortest time as possible.
I work in the centre of Bedford, near to the Lurke Street multi story car park and on street parking – with easy access from the M1 and A1 and other surrounding areas.
