About me
If something in your life is causing you distress, whether it be a current situation or a past experience, I offer a safe and confidential space where you can begin to explore your feelings and thoughts, at your pace. I aim to understand your world from your point of view by listening without judgement. I bring warmth, patience, encouragement and experience in order to support you, and to help you find clarity, choice, and greater inner peace.
I am a qualified counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As such, I work within the organisation's Ethical Framework. My approach is humanistic and integrative and I offer both short and long-term counselling and IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy to individual adults at Oldland Common on the Eastern fringe of Bristol. I also offer sessions via online webcam (Zoom).
My background is in training and development. I worked for several large companies before running a training consultancy. I first became interested in working therapeutically as a counsellor after completing a psychology degree, which led me to my own therapeutic journey.
I believe that the relationship between client and counsellor is crucial to the success of therapy. I offer a free 20-minute initial telephone consultation so that you can find out more and get a feel of what it may be like to work with me. Its also important for me to ensure that I am able to offer what you are seeking.

I worked as a counsellor for a bereavement charity for several years. In addition to grief and loss, I have worked with clients bringing issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, loss of self esteem, confidence or direction, difficulties at work and in relationships, life transitions, self harm and stress. I also have experience of working with young people in a secondary school setting and have worked with people from many different backgrounds, ranging in age from early teens to early 80s.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information
Face-to-face indoor sessions take place in a light and spacious room in Oldland Common, South Gloucestershire. The location is convenient for bus routes and parking is available on-street. In addition, I do have some availability for 'walk and talk' sessions in an outdoor setting that could take place after we have met for at least 1 session online, and had an opportunity to talk through whether this might be suitable.
