About me

Integrative Counsellor /CBT Therapist

Welcome to my profile, I am a professional, friendly Counsellor.  I have a wide range of experience including working with Anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties and trauma and have attachment difficulties.

I am currently offering remote sessions only.

Sometimes when we feel like our world has changed or we are not feeling how we used to do, we  can experience feelings of sadness, anger, guilt, stress or  helplessness.  Sometimes things change which are out of our control or perhaps you have chosen to make a change and would like support in dealing with those changes . Counselling can help by providing a space just for you especially when you are worried about burdening friends or family with how you .Maybe you've had a change or job.

With any change also comes a loss and the pandemic has brought about many unexpected changes and feelings for us all.
About me

I work using an intergrative approach with a Person centred base. Person centred Therapy is based on Carl Rogers's theory that everyone has the answers they need somewhere within themselves. Person Centred counselling is not about telling you what to do but helps to facilitate changes that you want to make and provides a space each week where you can explore your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

As an Integrative Therapist I work with each person as an individual and adapt the techniques used to meet the needs of each client. If a more directive approach is needed I will work with you to incorporate Cognitive Behaviour interventions and other techniques during the sessions depending on your individual needs, personality and aims of therapy.

I am also trained to use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which can be particularly useful for treating things such as Anxiety Disorders,Anger Management, OCD and any Negative Thought Patterns or cycles.

Whatever the difficulty is you are experiencing Integrative therapy is effective at getting to the root of the problem to enable you to make changes in your life.

Can counselling  help me?
It can be difficult to know if therapy can help you, especially if you have not been before. Even picking up the phone to make an appointment can be difficult.

Coming for Counselling does not  mean that there is anything wrong with you, many people find it helpful at some point in their life .

Below is a list which may help you decide if you can benefit from counselling or CBT. We can also discuss this further in our first meeting .

Counselling may help you if you

*Have unresolved issues from the past
*Are feeling the loss of someone close
*Feel Sad,Anxious or Depressed
*Feel the need to always please others
*Have experience a lot of change
*Want help to manage your Anger

*Feel something isn't quite right but your unsure what or why
*Having lots of negative thoughts that are affecting how you feel
*Have difficulty forming or maintaining  healthy attachment and relationships

*Feel a sense or stuckness or loss

There are also many other reason why people come to Counselling and although talking to family and friends can often help it is not the same as going for therapy where the time and space is dedicated purely for you.

Why choose me?
I understand that finding the right therapist is really important and you need to feel at ease to build up a trusting relationship . I work in a non judgemental way and offer a safe, warm ,comfortable place where we can work together.

I am often told that I have a 'knack' of making people feel comfortable which I'm sure you will find too . I will work with you as an equal to make sure that you get the most from your therapy session.

I will return your call or email within 48 hours of you contacting me and always work flexibly to fit around my clients needs.

I work from home for zoom sessions.

How long will I need to come for therapy?
The number of sessions that people come to counselling varies from person to person. You can expect to start feeling differently from the first session and many clients find short term therapy over a few months while others may want to continuing for a longer periods of time or on going to help maintain positive mental health.

Weekly sessions are recommended initially and there may be occasions at the beginning of therapy where twice weekly sessions feels needed. We can discuss the frequency in the initial meeting.

If you would like to chat about counselling before making an appointment please feel free to contact me by email or telephone.

I have worked a back ground of working with chikdren SEN, children and young people and looked after children. Although I'm am not currently offering  direct work with children I am able to offer supervision for counsellors working with CYP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a keen interest in Neurodivergence, particularly Autism, ADD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and have been supporting clients lead more fulfilling lives by learning helpful ways to manage their difficulties, self regulate and communicate in a way that supports them better. Growing up neurodiverse in a world that is geared for neurotypicals, presents its own set of challenges and can affect you in terms of mental health (depression and anxiety), self-esteem, loneliness and much more. Neurodiverse adults, often experience work-related stress leading to mental health issues. I can help clients become more confident and comfortable with themselves whilst supporting them through the challenge that is the neurotypical workplace or school.
