Profile
Person Centred counsellor /CBT Therapist -MBACP.
Welcome to my profile, I am a professional, friendly Counsellor working with Children and adults of all ages in private practice . I specilaise in Anxiety,Berevement, loss, Stress, Depression and Relationship Difficulties.
About me
I work from a person centred base which is based on Carl Rogers's theory that everyone has the answers they need somewhere within themselves. Person Centred counselling is not about telling you what to do but helps you to explore your own thoughts ,feelings and behaviours to make the changes you want to make .
If a more directive approach is needed I can incorporate Cognitive Behaviour interventions and other techniques during the sessions depending on the needs, personality and aims of the client I am working with.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is particularly useful for treating things such as Anxiety Disorders,Anger Management or Phobias.Whatever the problem when used in the right way CBT is effective at getting to the root of the problem and making fast changes in your life .
Can counselling help me ?
It can be difficult to know if counselling can help you, especially if you have not been before. Even picking up the phone to make an appointment can be difficult.
Coming for Counselling does not mean that there is anything wrong with you, many people find it helpful at some point in their life .
Below is a list which may help you decide if you can benefit from counselling. We can also discuss this further in our first meeting if you wish to .
Counselling may help you if you
*Have unresolved issues from the past
*Are feeling the loss of someone close
*Feel Sad,Anxious or Depressed
*Feel the need to always please others
*Have recently had change in circumstance
*Feeling something isn't quite right but your unsure what /why
*Feel your anger is affecting your relationships/work
There are many other reason why people come to Counselling and although talking to family and friends can often help it is not the same as going for therapy where the time and space is dedicated purely for you.
Why choose me ?
I understand that finding the right therapist is really important and you need to feel at ease to build up a trusting relationship . I work in a non judgemental way and offer a safe, warm ,comfortable place where we can work together.
I am often told that I have a 'knack' of making people feel comfortable which I'm sure you will find too . I will work with you as an equal to make sure that you get the most from your therapy session.
I understand how difficult approaching a counsellor can be and if i am unable to speak to you when you ring, I will return your call or email within 24 hours of you contacting me .
How long will I need to come for therapy ?
The number of sessions that people come to counselling varies from person to person .You can expect to start feeling differently from the first session and many clients find that 5 - 6 sessions is enough while others may want to come a lot longer.
If you would like to chat about counselling before making an appointment please feel free to contact me by email or telephone.
