About me

Hello, and welcome to my profile.

What ever is going on for you at the moment, my aim is to draw upon all of my skills and experience, which is over twenty years now, to fit your particular needs.

My degree is in humanistic counselling, and since then I have trained in couples therapy, addictions, counselling supervision as well as cognitive hypnotherapy.

It is understandable to try and deal with problems yourself.  In many cases these problems can be dealt with, but if you feel stuck then counselling can help.

I have found that some people only need a few sessions before they feel better, and I have a lot of experience with short term work.

I have noticed how many people benefit from the chance to take a step back and re-evaluate areas of their lives, whether it be work related or their relationships.

Many people come to see me simply to work on themselves, whether it be anxiety, health reasons, self worth, or obsessive thinking which can literally take any direction.  No problem is too big or too small, and knowing we all experience life differently, it is really important for me to get a good understanding of your situation and some of your background.

I offer both short term and long term therapy,  and if you cant make the same day each week due to differing work commitments, I am able to be flexible according to your needs.

I use a variety of techniques within my work and I have found that this flexible approach enables me to adapt to individual needs. I will draw upon all of my experience in order to respond to the particular problems that you are facing.  Living with uncertainty is not always an easy thing, and the way we each experience this can add an extra level of discomfort to our lives.

I have many young clients (not children though) who are noticing a lot of anxiety and obsessive thinking and there seems to be so much social pressure these days.  Together we can find better coping strategies, and ways of increasing self worth.

I also work with couples and am always interested in how we can bring the best as well as the worst out in each other.  Stress, family problems, and uncertainty can all trigger us into reacting in ways which make life even harder.  I am here to listen and together we can find new ways for you to experience your situation.

I can offer face to face counselling from a beautiful cabin in my garden, as well as zoom or telephone sessions. Its really important that you know we will be in a private room, and that I respect confidentiality.

I work to the highest ethical standard and am accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I  welcome university students, and have all the necessary qualifications and BACP accreditation to work with student counsellors.  I also offer counselling supervision to other therapists who are welcome to contact me.

I have run my own practice for a number of years and am available during the day and some evenings.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Sometimes as counsellors we can feel pushed and pulled in many directions and everything feels as if it is put into question.
