Profile
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working in the Derbyshire Dales area.
I believe that my role is to help you to discover how to become more self-reliant, and discover for yourself how to become more confident about your own ability to make decisions.
I work within the ethical guidelines of my professional body and strive to work in a genuine, sensitive and respectful way, as well as demonstrate competence in my knowledge and skills.
My Counselling Approach
We begin the counselling with an agreement between the two of us, which includes clarity about confidentiality and boundaries in order to help you feel safe about the counselling process. The agreement is also about establishing some agreed goals that will help you to feel better and become more self-sufficient.
I work within an integrative theory of psychotherapy; this means that my approach is one that makes use of skills and strategies, taken from a number of the different counselling approaches, namely, psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural.
I will collaborate with you to construct a way of us working together that is focused on addressing the specific problems or issues that you bring to counselling, and I will support you in making the decisions and taking the action to resolve your problem. I can help you to discover new ways of understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked and how you can be empowered to succeed by your own efforts in the face of difficult situations.
