Hello, welcome to my profile! I am a trained art psychotherapist based in Nottingham. I graduated in 2013 and have since worked with many clients in educational settings, care homes and in the NHS.
I can provide you with a safe space to talk about what is important to you. I am happy to see you on a short or long term basis. The focus of the therapy and how we set it up will be to meet your wishes and needs.
When clients come to see me art materials are always present to be used if they feel like it. Art materials are often very useful if you don't feel like talking or are struggling to put your feelings into words. Sometimes we can feel like all we do is talk, you might feel 'all talked out' or like you are going in circles when you talk about something that is particularly upsetting to you. This is when art making, even very very simple mark making can help to unlock things. It can offer a beautiful, joyful way out of negative thinking.
Art making skills are not at all necessary for art therapy. I will never judge your art making. I will work with you to think about what your images or objects mean to you.
I am psycho-dynamically trained, which means that I listen very deeply and non-judgmentally to what you talk to me about. Often life's problems are easy to cope with, and most of the time family and friends can help. Sometimes things can be overwhelming, we can feel we are going through the motions or our relationships with people seem to have hit rock bottom. This is when counseling can provide relief.
Please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can to begin to assess how best to help you with your difficulties.
Initially, we will have a phone conversation to talk more about your difficulties and to find out what your needs are, then if I feel I can help we will arrange a 50 minute assessment session to see if art therapy feels right for you.
