About me

Welcome.

We all have times in our lives when things don't go the way we expect, plan or want them to. It could be because of something that happened in the past, is happening now or that you think might happen in the future.

Whatever it is that has brought you consider counselling, I can provide you the necessary space and time away from everyone else, to try to figure things out. I will do my best to help you cope with whatever you are going through.

With experience in many areas and an established practice, I will offer you a warm, honest, accepting and down-to-earth approach. Providing you with a welcoming space to talk, together we can look at whatever it is that is troubling you, finding a balance that is right for you and work towards finding a way through whatever it is that you are currently struggling with.

All sessions are relaxed and non-clinical. My aim is to make you feel at home and as comfortable as possible.

I'm passionate about personal development, and would love to work with you to help you understand yourself, so that you can grow and develop in a way that feels right for you. You may recognise a new beginning, find a 'new normal' or discover a new balance for your life.

Counselling can be challenging, but more importantly it can be empowering, enlightening and life-changing. I will support you all the way.

Online counselling

I offer counselling online, mostly via Google Meet, unless you have a different preferred platform. Much like an in-person session, counselling online means you can access therapy from anywhere you feel comfortable. All I ask is that you are able to find a private space away from distractions for the session.

Telephone Counselling

Telephone sessions may an option for you if there's any reason why you don't wish to talk online via video. Telephone counselling can be just as effective as online counselling if you feel more comfortable talking in this way.

Experience

New Balance Counselling as owner and counsellor
The majority of work I do currently is taking referrals privately from people from a wide variety of backgrounds and with a huge range of issues.
I currently take referrals from various employers and occupational health companies who offer and pay for sessions for staff members. If you have any questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to contact me for further details.

Alliance Psychological Services as a children's counsellor
I was part of a team of therapists working with children in schools providing a targeted service that aims to improve the emotional health and well-being of children.

Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre, Darlington as a women's counsellor
I worked here as a volunteer counsellor, supporting women who have survived childhood sexual abuse, sexual harassment, domestic violence and rape.
I trained here to become a facilitator of the 'Freedom Programme', which is group programme for anyone who has experienced domestic violence.

Gay Advice Durham & Darlington as a counsellor
I worked here as a counsellor, supporting LGBT men and women who were struggling either themselves or with family around issues relating to sexual orientation, preference, gender and more.

Darlington College as a student counsellor
I worked here as a student support advisor and then as a counsellor with students going through difficult times with issues including relationship problems, self esteem and confidence issues, stress and anxiety.

Place2Be as a children's counsellor
I worked here as a volunteer counsellor in a Primary school. This involved me working therapeutically with children on a one-to-one basis using play therapy techniques, helping them learn how to express themselves and achieve their potential. The children I worked with had emotional issues or behavioural problems.

Having been trained in play and creative therapy with children, I have found that working in a creative way with adults as part of counselling can be extremely beneficial too.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
