About me

My dual role of occupational therapist and counsellor as well as my experience in varied mental health settings has given me unique experience and knowledge which I bring to my practice. My OT background gives me an understanding of physical health problems and the impact these can have on our mental health and everyday functioning.

I believe that counselling gives us the space to tell our story and be listened to. I am able to work at different levels from a more practical problem-solving approach of brief therapy for current issues to longer term therapy for deeper levels of emotional distress and issues that have a longer history. YOU decide what you want to talk about and how you would like to work.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diplomas in Counselling (Derby University 1993) and Occupational Therapy (Salford OT School 1990).
Member of BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy).

I have worked for over 20 years in mental health both as an OT and counsellor in the NHS, private healthcare and the charitable sector.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have experience of working with many diagnoses/conditions but believe that although it can be helpful to have a name put to what we are suffering, our personal distress is what needs to be focussed on.

£27 per hour session.

However, if there is financial difficulty, we can come to some arrangement which we can both afford!

Further information

Sessions are one hour long, frequency and number are discussed at the beginning so there is a plan but with flexibility if needed. I think it is useful to have regular reviews as we go along so we both feel we can openly say whether or not counselling is being helpful.

As a member of the BACP I abide by their Ethical Framework, this involves my own clinical Supervision and adhering to Confidentiality. I will explain these further when we meet, basically both are about ensuring safe practice.
My practice is based in Leek and I am also currently a volunteer counsellor for the Stoke branch of a well known mental health charity
